DOVER - A suspect remains sought after a 30-minute vehicle pursuit that occurred last week, beginning at a Walgreens, Dover police said Tuesday.
According to spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid, an officer initially saw a man begin to walk out of the store at 1001 Forrest Avenue without paying for merchandise at approximately 10:56 p.m. last Thursday.
The man fled on foot and the officer chased him, Cpl. Schmid said. The man then entered a brown Honda Civic, police said, and the officer ordered him to exit.
The man drove toward the officer, who was able to avoid being struck, police said.
A vehicle chase followed, which traveled through Marydel, Hartly and Smyrna, Cpl. Schmid said. The pursuit was terminated south of Townsend due to the suspect’s reckless driving, police said. According to Cpl. Schmid, the suspect’s vehicle reached speeds in excess of 100 mph.
Police said the man was wearing a hat, gray shirt, light-colored shorts and black sneakers at the store. He was described as being approximately 6-foot tall, weighing about 250 pounds, with black hair.
Cpl. Schmid said pending charges include reckless endangering, shoplifting, resisting arrest, disregarding a police signal and numerous traffic offenses.
Police ask anyone with information on the suspect’s identify to call 302-736-7111. Tips may also be submitted to law enforcement through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or online at delaware.crimestoppersweb.com; a cash reward is possible for information leading to an arrest.
