SHELLTOWN - Steven James Schaufert, 53, of Shelltown, died Saturday, August 14, 2010, at his home. Born in Baltimore City July 14, 1957, he was a son of the late Richard James Schaufert and the late Katherine Louise Stevens Schaufert, who he had a very special and close relationship with. A 1975 graduate of Crisfield High School, he was formerly employed with John Deere Company in Salisbury. He was a former counselor and House Manager at Second Wind Halfway House in Salisbury. He was also an outstanding musician, who played in several bands including Aeril and Flix, and worked with many musicians including bass guitar player Erik Brittingham of the band Cinderella. He also credited Sonny Riggin for teaching him how to play. In addition to his music, he enjoyed fishing, golf and all sports. He is survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Beth Schaufert of Crisfield, Bruce and Gerry Carey of Darlington, and Allen and Mary Schaufert of Glen Rock, Pa.; a sister and brother-in-law, Ellen and Kenneth Bender of Street; many nieces and nephews; and his past band mates, Steve Bloodsworth, Buddy Webb, Doug Beauchamp, Mark Dix, Bill Michael, Mark Malloy, Bob Hudson, Buddy Ward, Bruce Wooster, Mike Lambertson, Reggie Sterling, Rusty Riggin, Steve Bradshaw, Greg Evans and many others. Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Liberty Rock Church in Crisfield where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Nolan Ford will officiate. Urn interment will be held at a later date in Remson Cemetery in Pocomoke. Donations in lieu of flowers are requested to be sent to Second Wind Halfway House, 309 Newton St., Salisbury, MD 21801.
