HARTLY - Steve J. Szelestei Jr., 74, of Hartly, passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at his home with family in Hartly. He was born on Nov. 7, 1937, in Hartly, to the late Steve and Mary VanderVelde Szelestei Sr. He was a life member of Hartly Vol. Fire Co., where he held several offices. He was an Eagle Scout and the first in Hartly. He was the Harrington Beaver Dam Tax Ditch Manager for over 30 years. He enjoyed working on the farm and with his backhoe. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet Walls Szelestei; sons, all of Hartly, Steve Szelestei III and his wife Susan, William Szelestei and his wife Paula, and David Szelestei and his wife Tina; daughter, Carol Lynn Szelestei of Dover; grandchildren, Stephanie, Mark, Matthew, Melissa, Craig, Amanda, Justin, Logan, Lauren, Jillian, and Allison; and great-grandchildren, Greyson, and Kaylee. Remembrance Services will be noon, Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Hartly Vol. Fire Memorial Trust Fund, P.O. Box 28, Hartly, DE 19953; and/or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or donors@stjude.org.
