Stanley M. Hoffstein

HARTLY - Stanley M. Hoffstein, 87, who is now home in heaven passed quietly in his sleep on Jan. 18, 2011. Mr. Hoffstein was born in Philadelphia, on Sept. 11, 1923, son of the late Albert H. and Clara M. Hoffstein. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the US Army and received both the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and Good Conduct WWII Victory Medal, with pending award of the Purple Heart. He was a lifelong member of the Washington Lodge of Wilmington, and attended the Capitol Baptist Church of Dover. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art, University of Pennsylvania, and earned a Master's degree from the University of Delaware. Stan worked primarily in industrial design and held several patents for his work at International Laytex in Dover. Additionally, he worked as an industrial arts educator at Smyrna High School and Polytech, Woodside. He is survived by his wife, Nancy P. Hoffstein; three children, Mark Hoffstein, Kurt Hoffstein, and Beth Sowden; stepdaughter, Karen S. Powell; a brother, Jules (Ace) Hoffstein; seven grandchildren; and a niece. A memorial service will 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 24, at the Capitol Baptist Church, 401 Kesselring Ave., Dover. Burial service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Veterans Cemetery, Bear.
