Speak Up: Question response on marijuana bill

Posted

Adult-use recreational marijuana legislation has cleared the House Health & Human Development Committee. It includes a marijuana tax, a portion of which would be directed to a justice reinvestment fund. Supporters say that could be used to build awareness and help reduce arrests and incarcerations. Opponents say the bill should include employers’ rights to enforce a drugfree workplace, and shared concerns that it would encourage youth to use marijuana and impair their brain development. What else should legislators consider as they discuss the legislation?

  • If it passes with no immediate implementation. We don’t want to repeat what happened in Colorado and Washington state. Four years minimum but no more than six. — Lonnie Brewer
  • It’s already passed in the House plenty of times, and still nothing. — Christopher Joyce
  • We can pass weed bills but can’t repeal mask mandates. — Daniel Korup
  • Let me know when it’s legal to grow it. Until then, it’s not legalized, only decriminalized. — Steve Durnan

Question response: Should legislators add end-of-life options?

A bill that would amend the Delaware Code relating to end-of-life options for a terminally ill person cleared the House Health & Human Development Committee last week. What should legislators consider as they debate medical aid in dying for the terminally ill?

  • Legislators need to do the right thing and approve this bill. Without this option, the terminally ill suffer enormously, as do their loved ones. — William Falzareno
