With her bare feet planted in the sand, young Lily Dorman assessed her Polar Bear Plunge debut Feb. 5 as such: “very cold, and I can’t feel my feet,” she said. “But no frostbite today.” Her brother, Bentley Dorman, offered another perspective. “It wasn’t as cold as I was expecting it to be,” he said. The 2023 event — staged in relatively balmy weather compared to the previous day’s windy deep freeze — raised over $1 million. The money will benefit the more than 4,200 athletes who participate in Special Olympics and its 16 programs.
