Speak Up: Downtown Dover Partnership eager to kick-start transformation

Posted

The Downtown Dover Partnership is ready to jump into what it hopes will be a yearslong revitalization of the city’s core.

Developers and contractors have been invited by the agency to participate in the first of several mixed-use redevelopment projects identified in the new $500 million downtown master plan as “high priority.” Resident surveys have called for these key initiatives to include housing, parking and transportation amenities, and a mix of retailers, restaurants and small-scale grocery stores.

As a first step toward this renewal of the downtown area, the partnership recently issued a request to find the most qualified developer or team of developers to rework a parcel at 120 S. Governors Ave. The structure was once a small Acme store, before becoming an auto parts establishment.

  • I feel like I have seen this same initiative for the past 15 years. — Beth Gallagher
  • I agree that this has been talk for over 20 years. Seeing is believing with this transformation. It is all a dog and pony show, and the mayor and council need to dissolve the Downtown Dover Partnership because it is a waste of taxpayer dollars. There have been no results! — Ruth Hamilton
