Speak Up: Bayhealth seeks expansion to Smyrna, ‘medical neighborhood’ at Blue Hen
Posted
On Oct. 14, Bayhealth leaders shared their plans for further expansion into Kent and Sussex counties, including a new hybrid emergency/urgent care center in Smyrna and a “medical neighborhood” at the Blue Hen Corporate Center in Dover.
That’s wonderful. Build nice emergency rooms and offices, as long as there are doctors to fill them. — Sharon Greenfield Cohee
Unfortunately, due to the crime in Dover, the lack of good restaurants or anything to do in general — and, more importantly, the poor education system in Delaware, especially in the Capital School District, and no private school options — people with discretionary income (which, let’s face it, most doctors have) are nearly impossible to attract to or keep in the area. People don’t want to hear that, but it is the reality of the situation. It is not the beautiful place we grew up in. This should have been addressed 40 years ago. Over the past 25-30 years, it was apparent that the area was declining, but our local politicians were good ol’ boys and couldn’t see beyond today. There were no visionaries in the group. The current disaster will take decades to address, if it’s even possible, due to the politics and local mix of people. — Diane Duerr Partridge
Will this affect the Department of Veterans Affairs space at the Blue Hen Corporate Center? — Ken Lutz
Want to help? Speed up the emergency rooms. — Gerald Jerry Rice
Why? All the doctors keep leaving and don’t have time to see you for weeks. Maybe work on getting, and keeping, good doctors! Two primary care doctors have left in the last 18 months, you can’t see an endocrinologist, and good luck with the D-class ones who stick around. — Shannon RS
