SMYRNA — Cameron Edge always knew that his future was in college football.
Apparently, the Smyrna High quarterback has decided that future is now.
After playing last fall as a junior, Edge reclassified and signed with the University of Maryland on Wednesday as part of the Terrapins’ recruiting class.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Edge was considered by some as the top football recruit in Delaware. He was ranked as the 11th best QB in the country by ESPN as a four-star recruit.
According to Maryland, Edge chose the Terps over LSU, Michigan State, Penn State, Tennessee and Oregon.
In his one season with the Eagles, the Smyrna native helped lead them to the DIAA Class 3A football state championship game. After growing up in the Smyrna School District, Edge played his first two high school seasons at DeMatha High in Washington, D.C.
The District 3A Offensive Player of the Year, Edge completed 183 of 273 passes for 2,990 yards with 27 touchdowns and two interceptions.
