DOVER — A Smyrna man has pleaded guilty to misdemeanors following a reported shotgun blast into the air during an argument in Leipsic last summer, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

Leonard H. Voss Jr.

Leonard H. Voss Jr. was arrested on Aug. 28 after investigation into an altercation apparently sparked by the buying and selling of crabs the day before, according to the Delaware State Police at the time.

Police claimed the 61-year-old allegedly discharged a shotgun and then threatened to shoot a 23-year-old man who was arguing with Voss’ brother. On Sept. 27, according to the Delaware Department of Justice, Voss pled guilty to second-degree reckless endangering and terroristic threatening, both Class A misdemeanors. A sentence of six months probation was ordered, along with a $100 fine. The alleged altercation took place at approximately 12:25 p.m. in the Careys Diesel parking lot at 168 E. Denny Street, police said.

The day before, according to police, Voss and the 23-year-old man supposedly became involved in a physical confrontation after the younger man got into Voss’ face while selling crabs to customers. No charges were filed in that incident.
