Significant rainfall possible for Sussex, Kent counties

LEWES - Four to six inches of rain are possible in Sussex County from perhaps this afternoon through Sunday night due to the remnants of Hurricane Ian, according to the National Weather Service.

Kent County could see two to three inches during the same period, meteorologist Cameron Wunderlin said late Friday morning.

The forecast said minor coastal flooding will begin to ramp up with today’s high tide. The National Weather Service issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in Sussex County for today, “although more widespread minor coastal flooding is forecast over the weekend,” an update said.

According to Mr. Wunderlin, the National Weather Service was advising persons to stay out of coastal waters due to rip currents.

The National Weather Service issued a message projecting more of the wet conditions in the region through the next few days:

“Get the umbrellas and raincoats ready. The remnants of Ian will bring a prolonged period of cool, damp, and breezy conditions to the region into early next week.

“Most of the rain will fall tonight through Saturday morning. Localized minor flooding from rainfall is possible.

“Wind gusts up to 40 mph are possible along the coast by Sunday.”
