DOVER — A shooting investigation that began Saturday brought the arrest of a 16-year-old Dover male two days later, Dover Police spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said.

The teen turned himself in Monday in connection with the incident in the unit block of Rockford Crossing, according to aurhorities.

Police said that the investigation began at 2:38 a.m. Saturday when a patrol officer stopped a stolen Kia Forte in Capital Green. Upon stopping the vehicle, one of the occupants ran, however the teen driver was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Officers located shell casings inside of the vehicle at this time and they were collected as evidence, police said.

At 2:43 a.m., police received a call for shots fired in the unit block of Rockford Crossing, Cpl. Schmid said. Officers responded and located a residence that was occupied by five individuals that had been struck by gunfire and was damaged, police said.

No injuries were reported as a result of this shooting and detectives began an investigation, police said.

The teen was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property over $1,500, two traffic charges, and was released on Saturday.

Detectives then determined that there was a delay in the 911 call for the shots fired and the shooting happened prior to the teen being stopped in the stolen Kia, police said. Detectives also found that the teen was was involved in the shooting and they obtained warrants for his arrest, police said.

After the teen turned himself in to police he was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, first-degree reckless endangering, criminal mischief over $1,000 but less than $5,000 and hindering prosecution. He was committed to Stevenson House on $29,000 secured bail.
