Sgt. John W. Chandler

W. Chandler, 63 SMYRNA - Sgt. John "Jack" W. Chandler, was taken home to our heavenly Father on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 of heart failure, at his home with family. He was born on Nov. 10, 1948 in Dover, to the late Joshua and Nora Carroll Chandler, III. He was an active and adventurous man of many talents. He loved his muscle cars and his Dodge diesel trucks. He enjoyed Nascar, NHRA, fishing, camping, hunting, family, and friends. He was a Vietnam war veteran with service in the USAF and a member of the Vietnam Veterans of Kent County Chapter 850. He believed freedom was not free. He worked at and retired from the City of Dover as dispatcher in the electric department. He also worked for Atlantic Bulk Marine Fuel for 7 years. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Mary Carroll, and Joshua and Matilda Chandler; niece, Lucy Oman; and a good friend, Bill Gilman. He was the beloved husband and soul mate of his wife for 40 years, Linda Rose Meadows Chandler; the loving father of, John Eric and his wife Heather M. Chandler, of Dover, Machele Lee and her husband Charles Wester, of Frederica, Melissa Yvonne Chandler and Thomas Barr, of Md; brothers and sisters, Gilbert and Robin Chandler, Kenneth Chandler, Carl O'Brien, Linda and Dean Hall, Gail and Jeff Cash, Tina Chandler, and Audrey Chandler; left to remember him are ten grandchildren, Thomas (Jodi Layton), Jack (April Fisher), Tony, Cody Wester, Morgan (Virgil Phillips), Emily Godfrey, Rebecca (Daniel Jordan), Jena, Arika, and Nathaniel Chandler; and two great-grandchildren, Leeanna Rose, and Trenten Kolt Jordan, with one on the way in March. Remembrance services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, by Pastor Flick at the Trader Funeral Home in Dover, DE. Burial will be at the Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover, DE. Friends may also call Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Trader Funeral Home in Dover. The family request that memorial contributions be given to the Vietnam Veterans Association of America.
