SEAFORD — Signs of an election campaign abound throughout the city of Seaford.
Registered voters will go to the polls Saturday, with the mayoral reins and one city council seat at stake.
The candidates for the two-year mayoral term are former city councilwoman Pat A. Jones and incumbent David Genshaw.
Seeking the three-year council term are Stacey Spicer and incumbent Matt MacCoy.
Voting Saturday at City Hall is from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eligible voters must have been registered with the state of Delaware as of March 26 and reside within corporate city limits.
Ms. Jones, seeking to become the first female mayor in Seaford’s history, served 12 years on the city council. She ran for mayor in 2012, losing to William Bennett, who subsequently relinquished the post when he became electric commissioner.
Mr. Genshaw is seeking a fifth term as mayor. He became acting mayor in the summer of 2013, when Mr. Bennett vacated the post. Mr. Genshaw was elected mayor in 2014 and has served in that capacity since.
On the council candidate side, Ms. Spicer currently chairs the city’s planning and zoning commission.
After finishing third behind current council members James King and Orlando Holland in 2018’s election for two council terms, Mr. MacCoy won election to council the following year.
