SEAFORD – A traffic stop escalated into drug charges against an 18-year-old Seaford man, found by city of Seaford police to be possession of heroin.

Toja Ricketts, arrested by police Aug. 25, faces two counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Seaford Police Department Master Cpl. Eric Chambers said.

Toja Ricketts

Police stopped Ricketts for driving with a suspended driver’s license. During the traffic stop, police detected an odor of marijuana. A vehicle search revealed one bundle of heroin and various drug paraphernalia consistent with drug dealing, Cpl. Chambers said.

A further search of Ricketts revealed another bundle of heroin, a digital scale, a baggie containing crack cocaine and a large amount of U.S. currency that is believed to be proceeds from drug dealing, Cpl. Chambers said.

A total of 23 bags of heroin were recovered along with 1.2 grams of crack cocaine, a BB gun and the money was seized.

Ricketts was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace and released on his own recognizance.
