SEAFORD - A 36-year-old Seaford man died from shooting injuries suffered early Wednesday, authorities said.

Seaford Police spokesman Deputy Chief Rapa said that at approximately 12:22 am., officers responded to the Woodland Mills apartment complex for a report of a person shot.

Upon arrival, Deputy Chief Rapa said, officers located Deshawn Blackwel with multiple gunshot wounds. Responding officers started administering life-saving measures prior to medical personnel’s arrival to the scene, police said.

Mr. Blackwell was transported to a local hospital by Seaford Fire Department ambulance with life-threatening injuries which he later succumbed to, police said.

The Seaford Police Criminal Investigation Unit responded to the scene along with assistance from the Delaware State Police Major Crimes Unit and Evidence Unit.

Through investigation, police determined Mr. Blackwell was sitting outside of an apartment when an unknown person or persons approached him and fired several rounds. Mr. Blackwell was struck in multiple locations, Deputy Chief Rapa said.

Police said the unknown suspect or suspects then fled the area on foot.
