Home invasion shooting leaves Seaford man dead

SEAFORD - A 19-year-old Seaford male died from injuries suffered in a home invasion shooting incident late Tuesday, Delaware State Police spokesperson Senior Cpl. Jason Hatchell said.

Troopers were initially called to the 2800 block of West Stein Highway at approximately 11:53 p.m. for a reported home invasion and shooting, authorities said. The male was found to have been shot multiple times in the torso.

The wounded male was transported from his residence to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. Identification was pending notification to next of kin.

A 19-year-old female who also resided at the home was struck by gunfire once in her lower extremity. She was transported to an area hospital where she was treated and released.

According to Cpl. Hatchell, investigation determined five suspects made forced entry through the rear door of the residence. Once inside, the suspects brandished handguns and went directly to the victim’s bedroom where he and the female victim were located and demanded an unknown item, police said.

The male victim was shot inside his bedroom and the female victim was shot seated on a chair in the same room, police said.

Also, inside the residence at the time of this incident was an infant child and two other adults that also reside at this address. They were not injured during the incident.

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is investigating this incident. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact Detective A. Bluto by calling 302-741-2859.
