LAUREL — A 35-year-old Seaford man was charged with reckless endangering and gun offenses Tuesday.

According to Delaware State Police, at approximately 12:16 a.m., troopers responded to the 34000 block of Susan Beach Road for multiple reports of an unknown man knocking on doors. Upon their arrival, troopers said they contacted Jermaine Thomas and discovered he was heavily intoxicated and concealing a firearm.

A struggle ensued when troopers were taking Mr. Thomas into custody, which led to his firearm discharging in the area of the officers, authorities said. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident, and the weapon was recovered from the ground.

There were no reported injuries.

A computer inquiry of the gun found it had been reported stolen.

Mr. Thomas was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed firearm, first-degree reckless endangering (two counts), receiving a stolen firearm, resisting arrest and possession of a firearm while under the influence. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $45,000 cash bond.
