SEAFORD - Dontra Batson, 37, of Seaford, was arrested on drug, DUI, and weapon charges following a vehicle pursuit on Sunday morning, Delaware State Police said.
According to spokesman Senior. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto, Mr. Batson was driving a Ford Escape vehicle that traveled the wrong way on Sussex Highway before a police pursuit began at approximately 2:57 a.m.
Police said the Ford Escape struck a residence on Haven Drive and Mr. Batson began to flee on foot. He was then taken into custody without further incident.
According to police, Mr. Batson displayed signs of impairment, and a DUI investigation was conducted. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 2.89 grams of marijuana, approximately 0.15 grams of cocaine, and a Ruger 9-millimeter handgun.
Police said Mr. Batson is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Mr. Batson was charged with possession offenses including firearm during the commission of a felony, firearm by a person prohibited, firearm while under the influence, and control substance, disregarding a police officer signal, resisting arrest, driving under the influence, and numerous traffic offenses.
Mr. Batson was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $23,850 cash bond.
