SEAFORD — An 80-year-old Seaford man died in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon, Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.
According to authorities, Norman A. Miller was driving a 1996 GMC Sierra southbound on Woodpecker Road, when it hydroplaned in standing water on a curve and exited the roadway. The vehicle slid across a private driveway and a grass surface until it struck a tree.
Mr. Miller, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Woodpecker Road, between Woodland Ferry and Old Carriage roads, was closed for approximately four hours while the collision was investigated and cleared.
About two hours prior to the collision, the Delaware Department of Transportation posted “Water on Road” signs for both directions at that location, prior to the area of standing water, Cpl. Fournier said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Police asked anyone with information to contact Cpl./1 R. Albert at 703-3266. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or by visiting here.
