
DOVER - Sarah Lee Basnight, departed this life Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 following a lengthy illness. Sarah was born in Swans Quarters, North Carolina on Jan. 1, 1925 to Eunice Shaw. Sarah was a good, sweet, and kindhearted lady that loved her family and always put them first. Sarah was born partially blind but she never let her disability keep her down. Sarah attended the Modern Maturity Center in Dover for over 20 years. While attending, Sarah made a lot of friends and leaves three very special friends to cherish her memories; Ms. Evelyn, Ms. Addie, and Ms. Debbie all of Dover. Sarah will always live in the hearts of her family and friends because she was and will always be a beautiful lady. Sarah enjoyed taking walks, going shopping, going out to eat, dancing, and watching "The Price Is Right" and old western movies. Sarah had a pleasant and mild mannered disposition which few people possess today. She will truly be missed but never forgotten. Sarah received her education in North Carolina. She was a devoted wife, aunt (grandmother}, sister, and friend. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Basnight; her mother, Eunice Shaw Spruill; two sisters, Wynella Body and Ersela Lee Knight (Pooda); two nephews, James Spruill (June bug), and John Henry Body( Big Boy); and one niece, Mary Francis Spruill. She leaves to cherish her memories a very devoted nieces and nephew, Eula and Leon Deshields of Dover, with whom she lived for over 40 years; another niece, Juanita Knox (Andrews); five great-nieces and nephews; two great nephews-in-law and one great niece-in-law. Sarah helped raise all five of her great nieces and nephews and was more like a grandmother to them. She also leaves to cherish her memories Evangeline Deshields and Larry Goode of Leeburg, Va., Leon Deshields, III of Dover, Del., Tynita Deshields and Angelo James of Dover, Del., Timothy and Kimberly Deshields of Bear, Del. and Melissa and Terraine Giddens of Felton, Del.; two special great-great nieces (granddaughters), Brittney and Roszlynn Giddens of Felton, Del; as well as a host of nieces; nephews; and friends which are too numerous to list. She has meant so much to so many people. Aunt Sara will truly be missed but never be forgotten. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Her spirit will always be with us and he love will never be forgotten. Funeral services will be Sat. Sept 15, at 11 a.m at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division Street, Dover. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Sharon Hill Memorial Cemetery, Dover.
