DOVER - Samuel Moore Jr. passed away Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, in Kent General Hospital. He was 82. Sam was born in Dover on July 9, 1928, to the late Samuel B. & Mildred Moore. He was the first son of eight children. In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Ann; his son, Kline Gooden Moore; brothers, James Moore, Larry Moore, Carl Moore; and his sister, Jean Tomlinson. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Doris Mae Moore; his brothers, Charles Moore and wife Thelma, Ronald Moore and wife Michelle, Alfred Stockslager and wife Vicki; several nieces and nephews; and his caregiver, April Vandewater. At a young age Sam joined the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the USS Navasota. This was something he was so proud of. After leaving the military Sam returned home to Dover and married his sweetheart Doris Mae Sparks on Oct. 15, 1949. Sam had worked a few different jobs until he started working with Ed Nelson and became an electrician, he then joined the Union where he remained for 30 years before retiring in 1983. Sam was a good man, providing for his family was his first priority. Hardwork and saving was his way of life. Sam was an early riser and could be found any morning joining his friends at one of the local diners for breakfast. He met many people that remain his friends today. Sam was a wonderful husband, father, friend, and will be missed by all who knew him. A viewing will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb 14, 2011, with a service to follow at 3 p.m. at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery. The family suggests, donations be made in Sam's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
