WOODSIDE - Ruth J. Walker died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 in Knoxville, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late Josiah T. and Ethel Jump. She was born at home in Wyoming, Del. Ruth lived and worked in the Wyoming and Woodside community her entire life. She was active in Home Demonstration, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Rotary, and the Wyoming Methodist Church. She graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1938 and was very active in school activities including yearbook, band, drama club, and was a starter on the state championship basketball team that never lost a game. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel; and four siblings, Bea Townsend, Grace Knotts, J. Temple Jump, and Virginia Metz. She was a wonderful mother of three children, S. Derby Walker, Jr. (Janet), Ruth Ann Sharp (Rick), and Gary Walker (Susan); seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kent County Library, Kent County SPCA, or charity of your choice.
