HARTLY - Ruth Irene Webb went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Webb was born Sept. 2, 1927 in Glen Burnie, Md., the daughter of the late Herbert and Edith Burkman. Mrs. Webb worked for many years for Leeds Travelware in Clayton, and later retired after many years of service at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna. Ruth was a member of the Hartly United Methodist Church and was fond of listening to John Hagee on TV. She enjoyed shopping, making Sunday dinners with her family, and summer trips to her second home in North Carolina. Baking Christmas sugar cookies and tending to her plants and rose bushes were other enjoyments. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, John A. Webb, Jr.; two brothers, Herbert and Bud; and two sisters, Isabel and Margaret. She is survived by four daughters, Bev Greene and her husband, Ray of Hartly, Shirley Crossley and her husband, Ronnie of Hartly, Sharon Grunerud of Tuscon, Az., and Sandy Brundage and her husband, Ron of Hartly; her son, Jake Webb, III of Hartly; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister, Lou Ellen Gallagher of Glen Burnie; her sister-in-laws, Evelyn Parsons and her husband Bill of Hickory, N.C., and Kitty Yarber of Crossnore, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Services and burial will be private. In Mrs. Webb's memory, the family suggests contributions to Hartly United Methodist Church, 85 Main Street, Hartly, DE 19953.
