Roy Shiry Peterman

DOVER - Chief Master Sergeant Roy Shiry Peterman, Ret., passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2013 in the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. Roy was born Nov. 9, 1919 in Clearfield, Pa., to the late Thomas Roy and Irene (Ogden) Peterman. He served proudly in the United States Air Force, for over 30 years and at that time, he had been the youngest person to achieve the Rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Roy had tours during WWII, Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict. In his free time, Mr. Peterman enjoyed working on cars, and building wood furniture. He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons, Lodge # 7, Dover, as well as the Scottish Rite, Wilmington, where he achieved the 32nd degree. Roy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Florence (Wilson) Peterman; four daughters, Terry Lee Peterman, of Franklinton, N.C., Ann Irene Silcox, of Willow Street, Pa., Rorie Sue Hastings, of Milford, and Sandy Jo Strusowski, of Smyrna; two sisters, Elsie Sylvis, of Williamsport, Pa., and Linda Hastings, of McKenery, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will take place privately.
