Hassan Corbin netted 27 points to pace No. 14 Woodbridge to an 86-59 victory over No. 19 Indian River in the opening round of the DIAA boys’ basketball state tournament on Tuesday night.
The victory sends the Henlopen Conference Southern Division champion Blue Raiders (15-7) to a second-round rematch with No. 3 Smyrna (19-3) on Thursday. The contest will be played at Smyrna at 7 p.m.
The two teams just played on Friday in the Henlopen Conference championship game with the North champion Eagles posting a 65-49 win. This will be the fourth time Smyrna and Woodbridge have played in the last two seasons with the Eagles winning the previous three meetings.
Jamon Kane added 22 points with Troy Haynes scoring 13 for Woodbridge, which opened up a 22-8 first-quarter lead on Tuesday. IR and the Raiders split their two regular-season meetings with each winning by three points.
Jamier Felton tallied a game-high 28 points for the Indians (14-7) with Ja'Shaun Johnson adding 15.
Mt. Pleasant 75, St. Thomas More 65: The No. 11 Green Knights downed the No. 22 Ravens in the first round of the state tourney.
Mount Pleasant (16-4), the Blue Hen Conference champion, plays at sixth-seeded Sussex Tech (16-4) on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Girls’ bracket changed: The DIAA had to change the girls’ state tournament bracket after Dickinson self-reported on Monday that it was forfeiting two of its victories because of an ineligible player.
The tourney starts today with eight first-round contests beginning at 6:30 p.m.
In tonight’s matchups involving downstate schools, No. 18 Caesar Rodney will now play at No. 15 Delmarva Christian, No. 17 Woodbridge will play at No. 16 St. Georges and No. 21 Sussex Central will play at No. 12 Newark Charter.
In the other contest involving Henlopen Conference teams tonight, No. 24 Sussex Central will still play at No. 9 Sussex Tech.

Hens’ Hervado honored: Delaware lacrosse specialist Jake Hervado was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the week in men’s lacrosse.
In the Blue Hens’ 15-11 victory over Monmouth, the junior won a career-high 21 faceoffs in 28 attempts, including the first nine faceoffs of the game. His 21 facoff wins were the most by a Blue Hen in 11 years and the fifth-highest single-game total in the NCAA this season.
Hervado also grabbed a career-high 11 ground balls and added an assist.
