Wesley College senior outfielder Trey Mears was named the Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week for baseball on Monday.

The Sussex Central High grad went on tear for the 4-1 Wolverines, hitting .737 with 15 RBI, 11 stolen bases, and nine runs scored. Mears also hit four doubles and posted an on-base percentage of .750 and a slugging percentage of .947.

Mears set the school record for most RBI in a game when he drove in nine against Valley Forge on Thursday. Mears also hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning that scored Deshawn Aiken from second base to propel Wesley over No. 12-ranked Oswego State, 4-3, on Sunday.

College softball

Wolverines’ Royer honored: Wesley sophomore utility player Ashley Royer was selected as the Capital Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week.

Royer led the Wolverines to a pair of doubleheader sweeps over the weekend, hitting .736 (10-for-13) with a home run, 13 RBI, three doubles, and two triples. Royer has registered at least one hit and one RBI in all four games, and posted a slugging percentage of 1.538.

Royer leads the CAC in batting average (.769), runs batted in (13), slugging percentage (1.538), and triples (2).

College lacrosse

Wesley’s Cella earns defensive award: Wesley freshman goalkeeper James Cella was named the Capital Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for men’s lacrosse.

Cella was honored by the conference after posting a 58.1 save percentage in victories over Rosemont and Immaculata, totaling 25 saves on the week. He registered a goals against average of 8.70 in the two contests.

Cella ranks fifth in the CAC with 31 saves and 45.6 save percentage this season.

College track & field

Wesley tops meet: The Wesley College men’s track & field squad won the team title at the Last Chance Meet on Sunday hosted by George Mason.

The men received 61 points in the meet, which included programs from all three NCAA divisions. The Wolverine women also did well by finishing fourth.

Wesley’s men’s 1,600-relay team of Dominic McAnulty, DaJahn Lowery, Joseph Crenshaw and Rayshawn McRae won the event with a time of 3:25.02. The team of Ja’mier Bailey, Jordan Dillard, Terrance Mack and Will Johnson placed third in the relay, finishing in 3:30.73.

The women’s 1,600-meter relay team also won the event, with Elizsha Streeter, Quadira Minus, Briana Artis and Angel Hall clocking in at 3:53.15. The squad of Dieunise Desir, Chiquita Deline, Courtney Williams and Danae Carter placed fourth with a time of 4:16.70.

College bowling

DSU takes MEAC North title: The defending MEAC champion Delaware State bowling team achieved one of its season goals in its bid for back-to-back league titles.

The Hornets clinched the MEAC North championship after winning six of eight matches in the final division competition of the season this weekend.

The Hornets were 3-1 in regular team games and Baker matches to finish divisional play with a 20-4 record this season.

Individually, senior Amoni Knight had DSU’s best average on the day at 208.0, posting a total pinfall of 624 in three games. Knight had two 200-plus games, including 219 in the Morgan State, tops for the Hornets for the day.

Olivia Laird led the Hornets with a total pinfall of 773 in four games for an average of 193.3. Laird topped the 200 mark in two games, with a high of 206.
