The Wesley College women’s lacrosse team broke the school record for consecutive wins in its 19-5 victory over Centenary on Wednesday.

At 5-0, the Wolverines’ five-game winning streak betters the school mark of four straight wins held by both this year’s squad and the 2009 team.

Ashley Luna paced the Wolverines with a career-high five goals, two assists and two ground balls. Fallon Fore and Paige Brehm each netted four goals and caused three turnovers.

Fore picked up a game-high six ground balls and five draw controls. Brehm added four ground balls and an assist.

Maddison Cypher recorded a hat trick along with four ground balls and two assists. Allison Perugini tallied two goals while Brianna Bacon registered a goal and two assists.

Goalie Shelby Schirmer made three saves for the Wolverines.

MEN, Wesley 11, Ferrum 10: Behind four fourth-quarter goals, the Wolverines (4-2) earned a road win.

Trailing 9-7 in the fourth, Wesley reeled off four unanswered goals, getting two each from Josh Wassum and Nate Gemmato, to take the lead for good. A Ferrum goal with 12 seconds left accounted for the final score.

Wassum and Joe Fingles each tallied a hat trick and an assist. Gemmato won five faceoffs, grabbed four ground balls and scored twice for the Wolverines while Tewey, Leo Kelly and Hunter Coho each tallied a goal.

Goalie James Cella made seven saves to register his fourth win of the season.

College baseball

Wesley 9, Penn State-Harrisburg 0: The Wolverines opened their Capital Athletic Conference schedule with the shutout win.

Starter Alex Marrs pitched seven shutout innings, allowing only five hits, a walk and one hit batter.

Wesley (7-2) scored eight of its nine runs with two outs.

Chris Seibert went 3-for-5 while Trey Mears, Chris Bramble, William Foster and Aaron Briggs each tallied two hits. Mears added four stolen bases to bring his season total to 20.

College basketball

Four UD players honored: Delaware sophomore Nicole Enabosi garnered first-team All-CAA and All-Defensive team accolades for the first time in her career while senior Erika Brown was named to the third team for the second straight season.

Also for the Blue Hens, freshman Abby Gonzales earned All-Rookie team honors while senior Hannah Jardine was an All-Academic team selection for the third consecutive year.

Enabosi is second in the CAA with 10.1 rebounds per game (24th NCAA) and seventh with 13.9 points per game.

The Hens open the CAA Tournament with a 2:30 p.m. quarterfinals matchup against William & Mary at James Madison.

Girls’ basketball

Ursuline, Caravel in state finals: Top-seeded Ursuline will face No. 3 Caravel in the DIAA girls’ basketball state title game after both won in the semifinals on Wednesday night.

The championship game will be played on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Carpenter Center.

Ursuline downed No. 4 Sanford, 48-16, to earn the program’s 24th appearance in the state finals.

The Raiders (22-1), who have won the last two state championships, limited the Warriors to just 8-for-40 shooting from the floor. Margaret Connolly had 15 points for Ursuline.

Caravel earned its spot in the state title game with a 44-36 victory over No. 7 St. Elizabeth.

Maia Bryson and Grace Lange tallied 12 points apiece for the Buccaneers, which outscored the Vikings by a combined 20-7 in the second and third quarters to overcome an early six-point deficit.

Caravel, which is seeking the program’s first state crown, is in the championship game for the third time since 2013.

Alexis Lee had 11 points for St. Elizabeth, which topped No. 2 Caesar Rodney in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
