The Wesley College men’s basketball team defeated Penn State-Harrisburg 82-70 in a Capital Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday night

With the win, the Wolverines moved to 5-6 in the CAC (9-9 overall). Wesley led by one at halftime but out-scored Penn State-Harrisburg 47-36 in the second half to pull away.

Brian Cameron netted a game-high 30 points on 9-of-18 shooting. Cameron knocked down five of his six three-point attempts.

Paul Clemons scored 16 for the Wolverines while JW Lawson and Evan Anderson were also in double figures with 14 and 13 points respectively. Lawson added a team-high five steals.

WOMEN, Wesley 72, Penn State-Harrisburg 67: The Wolverines needed overtime but edged Penn State-Harrisburg to pick up their second CAC win of the season.

Monshea Newsome-Murray paced Wesley with 21 points and Tiyanna Gibbs scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Stacey O’Neale scored 15 for the Wolverines while Shelby Johnson netted 14.

Maura Brinkley recorded 10 rebounds.

UD women to play in Spain: The University of Delaware women’s basketball team will compete internationally this summer as the Blue Hens will travel to Spain from August 11-21.

The Hens will travel to Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia and compete in three games against international opponents while also participating in community service efforts during their 11-day trip.

“All in all, this is going to be an amazing experience,” said UD coach Natasha Adair. “I’m elated for our program and extremely thankful for our supporters and administration in this endeavor.”

Wrestling

Caesar Rodney 52, Appoquinimink 21: The Riders earned five pins on their way to a nonconference victory during a tri-meet on Wednesday.

Mike Primo (126 pounds), Cam Hayes (132), Riley Tracy (152), Paul Hicks (195) and Noah Salemi (285) each recorded a pin for Caesar Rodney.

Caesar Rodney 69, Christiana 12: The Riders won the second match of the tri-meet to improve to 7-1 this season.

Hayes (132), Dane Wilson (145), Samuel Tolson (160), Samuel Ervin (170), Hicks (195) and Brenden Holder (220) each won via pin in their respective bouts.

Sussex Tech 39, Cape Henlopen 33: Dustin Roplh’s in the second to last match of the night at 195 pounds sealed a Henlopen Conference Northern Division victory for the Ravens.

Sussex Tech won the first four matches to take control including three pins by Hunter Ruff (106), Mason Rolph (113) and Hunter Hineline (120). Michael Covey added a pin for Tech at 152 pounds.

Malvern Prep, Pa. 50, Smyrna 15: The Eagles fell to nationally-ranked Malvern Prep of Pennsylvania.

Joseph Natarcola (106) and Jack Davis (160) recorded a pin for Smyrna. Hunter Moyer (285) had the Eagles’ other victory via decision.

Boys’ basketball

Delmarva Christian 59, Holly Grove Christian, Md. 23: Andrew Workman’s 21 points paced the Royals to the victory over an out of state opponent.

Girls’ basketball

Delmarva Christian 40, Holly Grove Christian, Md. 26: Savannah Stewart led the way with 10 points and Kandice Schlabach chipped in nine in the Delmarva Christian win.

College track and field

Wesley’s Foster honored: Freshman track and field athlete Maysha Foster was named Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III South Rookie of the Week after her performance in her collegiate debut at the University of Maryland Terrapin Invitational this past Saturday.

Foster placed ninth out of 49 runners in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.98 seconds and 18th out of 40 in the 300-meter dash (43.89).

The freshman was also a part of the 4x400-meter relay team with Emani McNeil, Briyanna Woods and Tyler Reid that finished 14th out of 17 teams with a time of 4:23.22.
