Wesley College was outscored by 15 points in the second half as the Wolverines fell to York, 89-69 on Wednesday night in a Capital Athletic Conference men’s basketball contest.

Wesley was paced by Evan Anderson’s 19 points. JW Lawson was the only other Wolverines in double figures with 11 points.

Brad Wagner came off the bench for York to score a game-high 25 points on a 9-of-12 shooting performance.

The Wolverines were hampered by 24 turnovers on the night.

With the loss, Wesley dropped to 7-8 in conference play and 9-13 overall.

WOMEN, York 75, Wesley 60: The Wolverines led by two after the first quarter before York took control in the second quarter and was on top the rest of the way.

Smyrna High products Brionna Johnson and Alexus Stroud led Wesley with 22 and 18 points respectively.

Wesley fell to 3-12 in the CAC and 7-15 overall.

Boys’ basketball

Seaford 52, Laurel 51: The Blue Jays earned their third consecutive victory behind Andrez Jones’ 25 points.

St. Thomas More 83, Dickinson 43: In a game played on Tuesday night, Eric Montanez paced the Ravens with 18 points while Gregory Bloodsworth added 14.

Girls’ basketball

Delmar 38, Seaford 32: Aizha Brown was the lone Wildcat in double figures with 10 points as they edged the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Lake Forest 50, Woodbridge 44: Arika Burrell’s 19 points were a game-high and helped the Spartans record the victory in a game contested Tuesday night.

College baseball

UD’s Patten earns preseason honor: Delaware sophomore Nick Patten was selected one of the top 40 first baseman in the nation at the NCAA Division I level , by D1Baseball.com.

Slotting in at number 37, Patten was the top selection among Colonial Athletic Association first baseman.

“It’s a great honor for Nick to be selected the 37th best first baseman in the country by D1 Baseball. He’s worked extremely hard in the off-season on his game. He’s got big league power and is a pro-style first baseman. We’re lucky to have him here at UD,” said Delaware head coach Jim Sherman said.

Coming off a season where he batted .285 with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs, Patten was also named to the Preseason All-CAA first team back in January. At the end of last season, he was named a CBM/Louisville Slugger All-American and was named to the conference All-Rookie team.

Overall, Patten is one eight returning starters to the 2017 Delaware baseball squad, which was projected to finish fourth in the CAA this season by the league coaches, and had four All-CAA honorees.

College lacrosse

Hens to appear four times on Lax Sports Network: The Colonial Athletic Association has announced the 15 men’s and women’s lacrosse games that will appear on Lax Sports Network as part of the “CAA Game of the Week” broadcast package.

A total of 10 men’s lacrosse games, including three featuring the Blue Hens, will be broadcast on the Lax Sports Network during the regular season while five games on the women’s side, including one with the Blue Hens, will be broadcast during the regular season. The semifinals of the CAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship and the CAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship will also be carried by LSN.

The first CAA Game of the Week will be on March 14 with two-timing defending CAA Champion Towson, ranked No. 12/12, hosting No. 17/RV Ohio State. The Tigers make another appearance on March 25 when they host No. 3/3 Denver and again on April 29 when they host Hofstra for the CAA regular season finale. Also highlighting the schedule is the Stony Brook-Hofstra game which will take place on March 25 in Hempstead, N.Y.

There will be two doubleheader days as well. On April 8, Delaware hosts Hofstra followed by Fairfield at Drexel. On April 28, the penultimate day of the regular season, UMass hosts Drexel and Fairfield hosts Delaware.

The five-game women’s slate begins on April 1 when James Madison, which is receiving votes in the national polls, hosts No. 19/19 Towson in a rematch of the 2016 CAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship final. The Tigers, the defending conference champions, appear once again on April 9 when they host Elon.

James Madison makes its second appearance of the season on April 21 at Drexel. Elon’s game against Hofstra on April 23 is also a part of the schedule. Delaware versus William & Mary on April 14 rounds out the package.

Local bowling

Special Olympics Bowling Tournaments get underway across the state: Months of training culminate when more than 1,300 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners (peers without a disability) from school-based and Area teams from around the state showcase their skills at five Special Olympics Delaware Bowling Tournaments held in New Castle, Dover and Milford. Events include competition in singles, doubles, Unified doubles, bumper and ramp.

“Bowling is one of our most popular sports across the state,” says Gary Cimaglia, SODE senior director of sports. “One of The neatest things about our athletes participating in bowling is that they can then transfer what they learn when they have opportunities to bowl with friends and family in the community.”
