The Wolverines have three straight games to even their record at 6-6.
Chris Seibert paced Wesley in the first game, going 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI. He is now tied for the Wesley all-time home run record with 21 in his career.
In the nightcap, the Wolverines batted around twice in the second inning and pushed across 14 runs.
Seibert, Michael Piccirillo, Cody Dmiterchik (Cape Henlopen) and William Foster each notched two hits. Seibert drove in three runs while Piccirillo and Dmiterchik brought in two runs.
Bryant 6, Delaware 5: The Blue Hens couldn’t hold a pair of two-run leads in dropping the series finale.
Bryant won three of the four games, snapping Delaware’s home series winning streak at eight.
Senior James Meeker pitched the first five innings for the Hens (10-8), allowing five runs in emergency relief duty of original starter Billy Sullivan, who missed the game due to illness. The Hens, who enjoyed leads of 3-1 and 5-3, received a pair of hits each from Kevin Mohollen, Calvin Scott and freshman catcher Zach Miller.
The Bulldogs scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning.
Norfolk State 14, Delaware State 5: The Spartans collected 14 hits and took advantage of seven Delaware State errors in the MEAC North win.
Jared Gillis (Smyrna) and Darnel Maisonet each had three hits and an RBI for the Hornets (0-3 MEAC, 2-17), which has lost 15 games in a row.
Delaware State had 13 hits with Polytech High grads Cole Garey and Adrian Hill each adding two hits.
College softball
Blue Hens notch sweep: Sarah Piening fired a three-hit shutout in the Blue Hens’ 2-0 win over Cornell before Mariah Kondravy belted a walkoff grand slam in the 6-2 victory over Villanova.
Piening scattered just three hits and one walk while earning her fourth victory of the season, including her first shutout for Delaware (6-16).
Against Villanova, the Hens were down to their final out in the seventh, but Ali Davis lined a double to leftcenter, chasing home Giovanna Kolofer with the tying run. In the eighth, Kondravy blasted a pitch over the fence in leftcenter, setting off the Blue Hen celebration.
College lacrosse
WOMEN, Virgina Tech 17, Delaware 10: The Blue Hens netted the first three goals of the contest before eventually falling to the No. 17 Hokies.
Sydney Rausa tallied four goals to pace Delaware.
Local softball
Men’s league looking for players: The Kent County Men’s Senior Softball League is seeking players age 50 and older to play in this season.
Games are played on Monday and Wednesday evenings from April through early August at Big Oak Park in Smyrna. Registration closes April 7, with tryouts and draft to be held that day. For more information, search ‘Kent County Senior Men’s Softball League’ or contact Steve at 302-751-1010.
