Roundup: Wesley adds newcomer to football schedule

Posted

The Wesley College football team has strengthened its 2015 schedule with the addition of North Central College (Ill.) to its slate.

The Cardinals replace Virginia University of Lynchburg, which the Wolverines had to drop after the NCAA passed a rule stating that stats from games against certain teams wouldn’t count. VUL was one of those teams.

North Central (8-2) finished the 2014 season ranked 18th in the final American Football Coaches Association poll and 15th in the final D3Football.com poll.

The Wolverines will travel to Naperville, Ill. on Sept. 26 to take on the Cardinals at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. The time for kickoff is to be determined later. This meeting marks the first time the Wesley football team has taken on North Central.

“We are extremely excited to add North Central to our schedule,” said Wesley coach Mike Drass. “(North Central) is a top 10 caliber team in the country and this should be a great test for us. It will definitely boost our strength of schedule.”

North Central enters this season with high expectations, being ranked seventh in the Lindy’s DIII Preseason Poll and 17th in the Sporting News DIII Preseason Poll.

Wesley will open their season on Sept. 12 when they travel to western Maryland to take on New Jersey Athletic Conference foe Frostburg State. The Wolverines will play their home opener against NJAC rival Christopher Newport University on Sept. 19 at 1 p.m. before traveling to Illinois to take on the Cardinals.
