Jonathan Walker led three Delaware State players in double-figures with a career-high 17 points in the Hornets’ 68-55 win over Georgian Court in men’s basketball at Memorial Hall on Saturday afternoon.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak, but was overshadowed by an injury to DSU sophomore guard Kobe Gantz, who was helped off the court with an apparent knee injury midway through the second half.

Gantz leads the Hornets in scoring (13.5 ppg), assists (20) and steals (16) through six games this season. His playing status for the near future is uncertain.

Walker was 6-for-9 from the field, including 3-of-5 on three-point attempts. He also contributed three assists and three steals to the win.

Hornet center Simon Okolue added 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while freshman forward Marquis Collins came off the bench to score a career-best 14 points. Collins was 3-for-5 from the field with a pair of three-pointers and 6-of-6 at the line in the game.

The Hornets trailed 28-25, but outscored the Lions 10-1 in the final 1:30 of the first half to hold a 35-29 lead at the break. Collins knocked down each of his three shots from the field and two free throws to lead all players with 10 points in the first 20 minutes.

Delaware State (2-4) opened up a double-digit lead, 39-29, on a layup by Okolue with at the 18:14 mark of the second half and held its biggest advantage, 64-45, after a three-pointer by Walker with 5:34 remaining.

WOMEN, St. Peters 90, Delaware 87: Four players scored in double figures, but the Blue Hens came up on the wrong end of the double-overtime heartbreaker at Saint Joseph’s Hagan Arena.

Delaware (2-3) will face Eastern Illinois at 2 p.m. today in the consolation game of the 24th Annual Hawk Classic.

Junior Nicole Enabosi registered a career-high 27 points to go along with 16 rebounds for her third double-double of the season while sophomore Samone DeFreese notched 11 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. Enabosi added five assists and a season-high three blocked shots.

Sophomore Abby Gonzales contributed a career-high 18 points to go along with six assists and four rebounds while classmate Bailey Kargo recorded 12 points, four assists and two steals.

In a game that featured 16 lead changes and 13 ties, the Hens led by one with 1:37 remaining in the contest, but saw the Peacocks (3-2) tally four unanswered points as time wound down.
