Turnovers and offensive woes hindered Delaware on Monday afternoon as the Blue Hens fell, 60-49, to William & Mary in its CAA women’s basketball opener at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The loss marked the third straight for the Hens (6-6 overall) after opening the year with a 4-0 mark.

UD committed 18 turnovers while sophomore Nicole Enabosi and redshirt junior Sadé Chatman combined for 36 of Delaware’s 49 points. The Tribe outscored the Blue Hens, 17-0, off the bench and also registered 25 points off UD turnovers.

After jumping out to a 23-17 first-quarter lead, Delaware tallied just 12 total points in the second and third quarters and shot 4-of-24 (.167) from the field during that span.

Enabosi led the Hens for the second consecutive game with 20 points and 12 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Chatman added 16 points and seven rebounds in 33 minutes.

William & Mary (11-1, 1-0 CAA) has won 11 straight games.

DSU’s Pollard earns honors: Delaware State sophomore NaJai Pollard earned both Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Monday.

She combined for 56 points, 22 rebounds and four blocks in recent contests against Longwood and Virginia Tech. Pollard was 23-for-33 from the field (67 percent) in the two games.

This marks the third and fourth MEAC weekly awards for Pollard this season. For the season, Pollard is No. 1 in the MEAC in scoring (19.0 points) and in rebounding (10.0), and a close second in field goal percentage (54.7). She tops all league players with a 19.0 point per game scoring average and a 10.0 rebound per game mark.

Daly gets CAA award: Delaware freshman guard Ryan Daly was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday.

Daly averaged 19.0 points and 13.5 rebounds while posting his first two career double-doubles during the Blue Hens’ home games against Iona and Hofstra. He went 14-of-33 from the field and hit five three-pointers while playing all but four minutes during the two games.

Daly has taken over the team lead by averaging 12.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. He currently ranks sixth in the CAA in rebounding and is 19th in scoring, and is the third leading freshman scorer in the league.
