Senior running back Ja’ron Hunt-Fletcher ran for a pair of second-half touchdowns as Sussex Tech High came back to post an 18-5 victory over Cape Henlopen in Henlopen Conference Northern Division football on Friday night.

Trailing 5-0 at halftime, Hunt-Fletcher scored on a 62-yard run in the third quarter to give the Ravens the lead for good.

Hunt-Fletcher later scored on a 10-yard run for Sussex Tech, which snapped a three-game losing streak to finish the season 2-4 in the North, 4-6 overall. Michael Norsworthy added a short TD run for Sussex Tech.

Hunter Simmons hit a 32-yard field goal for the Vikings (1-5, 3-7). The game was the last for Delaware Sports Hall of Fame coach Bill Collick, who plans to retire after the season.

Field hockey

Division I tourney site changed: With four Henlopen Conference teams reaching the state semifinals in the Division I field hockey tournament, the DIAA has switched the site to the DE Turf Complaex in Frederica.

The semis were originally slated to be played at Rullo Stadium in Newark.

In Tuesday’s semifinals, Dover will face Sussex Tech at 5:30 p.m. with Polytech taking on Cape Henlopen at 7 p.m.

“This provides a much more favorable geographic venue that will accommodate fans and allow our student-athletes to return home on a school night at a better time,” DIAA executive director Tommie Neubauer said ina statement.

Tickets are $7, with one admission price good for both games. However, if you leave the stadium area you must pay to re-enter.

College basketball

MEN, Delaware 76, Richmond 63: The Blue hens jumped out to a 33-point lead in the first half and held off a Richmond charge down the stretch in winning their season opener.

Delaware, which won its season opener for the third straight year, used a 29-2 run during the first half and eventually went up 45-12 with 3:05 to play in the half. Richmond rallied twice but never got closer than nine in the second half.

Blue Hen sophomore Ryan Daly led the way with 22 points, while Eric Carter notched a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Kevin Anderson contributed 11 points in his UD debut, while Anthony Mosley was the fourth Blue Hen in double figures with 10 points to go with five assists.

WOMEN, Buffalo 87, Delaware 73: Delaware’s comeback attempt came up just short as the Blue Hens dropped the season opener.

The game marked the Blue Hen debut of Natasha Adair as only the fourth head coach in the history of the Delaware program.

Delaware cut a 20-point third quarter deficit to just 10 with 5:53 remaining, and to nine with 4:37 remaining, but a three-pointer by Mariah Suchan of Buffalo increased the lead back to 12.

Three different Blue Hens scored in double-figures, including sophomore Nicole Enabosi, who led all scorers with 18 points and nine rebounds. Senior Makeda Nicholas added 16 points while sophomore Samone Defreese scored a career-high 12 off the bench.

College field hockey

Wesley’s Fry honored: Wesley College junior back Kasey Fry (Milford) earned All-Capital Athletic Conference field Hockey second-team laurels.

A mainstay on defense, Fry started all 18 games for the Wolverines. She totaled eight points on the season, putting away three goals and adding two assists. She also notched three defensive saves on the back line.

“Kasey had a great year and we are all happy for her to receive this honor,” said coach Tracey Short. “She worked hard, played well on both sides of the ball and pushed herself and her teammates to excel. Our entire team is very proud of her accomplishment.”
