Smyrna High won the first two sets before registering a 3-1 victory over Caesar Rodney in Henlopen Conference Northern Division volleyball on Thursday night.

The Eagles won the match by scores of 25-21, 25-16, 23-25, 25-14. It was Smyrna’s fourth straight win over the Riders.

Leading the way for CR were Chloe Therese Mangubat (9 kills, 3 blocks, 3 digs), Shivani Modi (7 kills), Ana Lucia Villabona (11 digs, 25 assists), Lynsy Gruwell (2 kills, 24 asasists) and Sara Cessna (5 kills, 2 aces, 6 blocks, 9 digs).

St. Thomas More 3, Dover 0: The Ravens took the nonconference win by scores of 25-6, 25-12, 25-11.

Pacing St. Thomas More were Sarah Pool (15 kills, 9 aces. 4 digs), Gillian Crawford (6 kills, 6 aces, 23 assists) and Jessica Crawford (5 kills, 1 ace, 4 digs).

Indian River 3, Milford 2: In a back-and-forth match, the Indians won the final two sets to post the 25-17, 16-25, 18-25, 25-14, 15-9 victory.

IR was paced by Samantha Mumford (5 kills, 1 ace, 4 blocks, 4 assists), Carly Collins (4 kills, 1 ace. 2 blocks, 4 digs) and Julia Bomhardt (2 kills, 8 aces).

Leading the Buccaneers were Deanna Maloney (9 kills, 4 aces), Genesis Chamberlayne (7 kills, 1 ace) and Madison Rogers (6 aces, 16 digs, 8 assists).

Woodbridge 3, Seaford 0: The Raiders earned the Henlopen South wins by scores of 25-13, 25-17, 25-22.

Delmar 3, Sussex Academy 0: The Wildcats won the Henlopen Conference match by scores of 25-11, 25-9, 25-22.

Bailey Proden had six kills for the Seahawks with Searra    Pollitt and Bailey Hesson adding four each.

Sussex Tech 2, Sussex Central 0: The Ravens picked up the victory by scores of 25-9, 25-14.

Field hockey

Milford 3, Dover 1: Daphne Leighty netted two second-half goals as the Buccaneers stayed unbeaten at 5-0.

Katelyn Melvin scored with no time remaining in the first half for Milford with Leah Barnett making six saves.

Ally Manifold scored in the second half for the Senators who got nine saves from Madison Francois. Milford outshot Dover, 12-7, while the Senators held a 10-5 edge in corners.

Caesar Rodney 6, Sussex Central 0: The Riders tallied three goals in each half in earning their first win of the season.

Polytech 3, Sussex Tech 2: Lacy Bayley’s goal early in the second half broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the Panthers to the win.

Shannon Stephan and Maddi McKay tallied first-half goals for Polytech with Holly Rembold making six saves. The Ravens outshot Polytech, 10-9, while both squads had six corners.

Bridget Johnson and Jazmyne Marino both scored for Sussex Tech while Macey Mitchell stopped four shots.

Delmar 2, Lake Forest 0: Peyton Kemp scored in the first half and Ashlyn Carr added a goal in the second as the Wildcats improved to 4-0.

Madison Blewitt made nine saves in Delmar’s third straight shutout. The Wildcats finished with advantages of 26-9 in shots and 15-2 in corners.

Brooke Tucker made 24 saves for the Spartans.

Indian River 1, Smyrna 0: Lexi Haden scored the game’s only goal at the 23:01 mark as the Indians earned the Henlopen Conference win.

Goalie Mya Parks made eight saves for IR as the Eagles held advantages of 7-6 in shots and 7-4 in corners.

Smyrna’s Elena Montejo made three saves.

Boys’ soccer

Polytech 1, Cape Henlopen 0: Marco Maddalena’s overtime goal in the 97th minute lifted the Panthers to the Henlopen North victory.

The win keeps Polytech undefeated at 2-0 North, 5-0 overall. The victory was also the Panthers' first over Cape since before 2009.

Ceasar Rodney 7, Smyrna 1: Ricardo Hernandez, Steven    Ferrandino and Thomas McPoyle tallied two goals and an assist each as the Riders netted four unanswered goals in the second half to break open a 3-1 game.

Thomas Pomatto also scored for CR, which got three saves from Nathan Reid. The Riders finished with advantages of 24-5 in shots and 8-2 in corner kicks.

Zachery Zlock scored for the Eagles with Abdul Musa stopping 10 shots.

Indian River 5, Milford 1: Five different players scored for the Indians, who led 4-0 at halftime in the Henlopen South victory.

Mikie Mochiam, Johan de jesus Cordoba, Oscar Cruz Osorio, McClain Smith and Luke McCabe all scored for the Indians with goalies Kevin Calles and Zane Richard combining for four saves.

Matthew Mitzel scored for the Buccaneers while Miguel Lopez had four saves. IR outshot Milford, 10-5.

Sussex Central 3, Sussex Tech 2: Christopher Ramirez netted the Golden Knights’ last two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, as the Golden Knights rallied for the North win.

A goal from Ramirez in the 72nd minute tied the contest at 2-2. Dalendy Dupervil scored a first-half goal for Central while Watson Dorsinvil made seven saves.

Joshua Artiga and Patrick Short both scored second-half goals for the Ravens with Anthony Hitchcock stopping five shots. The Knights outshot Sussex Tech, 10-8.

Sussex Academy 4, Delmar 0: Will Davis and Nate Riddle scored two goals apiece to lead the Wildcats to the South win.

St. Elizabeth 7, St. Thomas More 0: The Vikings netted three first-half goals with four in the second half of the shutout victory.

St. Thomas More James Lauser had 11 saves as St. Elizabeth finished with advantages of 23-3 in shots and 6-1 in corner kicks.

College field hockey

Washington College 7, Wesley 0: The Wolverines dropped to 1-7 with the loss on Thursday.

Wesley goalie Bridget Wood made a pair of saves in the first half, Sidney Knott made a game-high six saves in just over 25 minutes and Makenzie McIntyre made one save over the final 10 minutes.
