Roundup: Smyrna sweeps CR in volleyball

The Smyrna High volleyball team snapped a two-game losing streak and stayed unbeaten in Henlopen Conference play with a 3-0 victory over Caesar Rodney High on Thursday afternoon.

The Eagles improved to 3-2 on the season while the Riders dropped to 2-2.

Set scores were 25-22, 25-17 and 25-23.

St. Thomas More 3, Dover 0: The Ravens defeated the Senators 25-9, 25-21 and 25-9.

Sarah Pool led St. Thomas More with a match-high 14 kills.

Indian River 3, Milford 1: The Indians won the last three sets 25-19, 25-16 and 25-11 for the comeback victory.

The Buccaneers won the first set 25-20.

Sussex Tech 3, Sussex Central 1: All the sets were close but the Ravens prevailed 25-23, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-23.

Woodbridge 3, Seaford 1: The Blue Raiders won 25-10, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-23.

Field hockey

Polytech 2, Sussex Tech 1: Meadow Watkinson and Jamie Trabaudo each scored for the Panthers in the first half as they hung on for the victory.

Hannah Venables provided the goal for Sussex Tech.

Lake Forest 2, Delmar 2: Kaitlyn Stahre tied the game in the second half with her second goal of the game and after a scoreless overtime the contest ended in a tie.

Delmar outshot the Spartans 33-6 but Allison Bishop recorded 21 saves to keep Lake in the game. Delmar was led by goals form Paige Twilley-Webster and Anna Webster.

Smyrna 2, Indian River 0: Kaila Hindt had both goals for the Eagles as Katie Fuhr had both assists in the win.

Ally Wheatley came up strong with two defensive saves.

Milford 3, Dover 1: Megan Fry scored a pair while Rajene Bowe chipped in a goal as the Buccaneers earned their first win of the year.

Kiley Casas had the goal for the Senators.

Woodbridge 9, St. Thomas More 0: Kelsey Eckert led the way for the Blue Raiders with four goals.

Boys’ soccer

Caesar Rodney 9, Smyrna 0: Chris McPoyle’s hat trick paced the Riders as they won their fifth in a row.

The Riders also got a pair of goals from Joshua Bennett while Thomas McPoyle, Markland Bailey, Hasan Sandhu and Ricardo Hernandez each had one.

Cape Henlopen 3, Polytech 0: Drew Mulcahy had two goals in the second half and Zach Gelof also scored for the Vikings.
