Roundup: Simmons paces St. Thomas More to win

Jessica Simmons netted 20 points to pace St. Thomas More to a 61-19 victory over Delmarva Christian in girls’ basketball on Thursday evening.

The win was the third in a row for the Ravens (4-1), who led 34-10 at halftime.

St. Thomas More’s Aniah Patterson (13 points) and DahNaija Barnes (11) also scored in double figures.

Camryn Breasure tallied a team-high seven points for the Royals (3-5).

Caravel 69, Lake Forest 42: Mya Maddox scored 19 points with four three-pointers for the Spartans in their nonconference loss.

The Buccaneers built a 52-22 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Boys’ basketball

St. Thomas More 68, Delmarva Christian 25: Eric Montanez scored 22 points to lead the Ravens to the win.

Greg Bloodsworth added 12 points for St. Thomas More (3-2).

Andrew Workman had 10 points for the Royals.

Wrestling

Caesar Rodney 57 Middletown 9: The Riders won the first seven individual bouts before capturing the victory on Thursday.

Brenden Holder (285 pounds) registered a 17-second pin for CR (1-2) with Jackson Rall (170) and Kenny Tiemon (220) also winning by fall.

Sussex Tech 51, Lake Forest 19: Hunter Hineline’s 19-second pin at 126 pounds was the fastest of the Ravens’ seven wins by fall in the match.

Chase Flood (113), Devin Tercero-Berduo (120), Tarryl Sturgis (160), Darvin Perez-Mendez (182), Robert Van Pelt (195) and Andrew Hawkins (220).

Jordan Springer (285) had a pin for the Spartans.

Lake Forest 57, Appoquinimink 24: A 44-second pin from Michael Galloway (195) helped spark the Spartans to the nonconference win on Wednesday.

Also winning by fall for Lake Forest were Dean Fleming (152), Wade Brooks (220), Jordan Springer (285), Ibrahim Statts (132) and Seth Fleming (138).

Sussex Tech 54, Delcastle 19: Robert Van Pelt’s 49-second pin was the Ravens’ quickest of the match in their win on Wednesday.

Sussex Tech’s other falls came from Chase Flood (113), Hunter Hineline (126), Royuan Jones (152), Taryl Sturgis (160) and Jacob Hamer (170).

College basketball

MEN, Wesley 100, George Fox 91: The Wolverines put up their highest point total since 2013 in the West Coast win late Wednesday night.

J.W. Lawson netted a career-high 35 points while Evan Anderson added 18, with all of them coming in the second half. Brian Cameron scored a career-high 21 points and added six rebounds while Rasahn Brinkley pitched in with 12 points and nine boards.

Wesley (5-6) shot 60.0 percent from the field, including 7-for-10 from three-point range. The Wolverines were also 21-for-25 from the foul line.
