The Dover High softball team scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to edge Caesar Rodney High 4-2 in a Henlopen Conference Northern Division matchup on Tuesday afternoon.
It is believed to be the first time Dover has ever beaten the Riders in school history.
“To me, that’s the next step in our program,” said sixth-year Dover coach Gerald Jester. “We’ve been trying to build it since I got here and that’s the next step. To beat CR, we needed it.
“They’ve been showing me something all year. Even in the losses, they haven’t quit. They’ve battled every game this year. That shows me the sign of a winner when they don’t quit.”
Katie Dunlap pitched a complete game for the victory.
Lake Forest 8, North Caroline, Md. 0: Grace Aguilar doubled and tripled as the Spartans won an out of state matchup.
Katie Stahre went the distance to record the shutout.
Polytech 6, Woodbridge 1: Brianna Stevenson’s three-hit game paced the Panthers in their Henlopen Conference win.
Sussex Tech 22, Milford 10: Corrine Farris was 3-for-3 and Colleen Cosbey went 2–for-2 for the Ravens in a high-scoring affair.
Courtney Kohel drove in three runs and had three hits to lead Milford.
Sussex Central 10, Seaford 2: The Golden Knights scored seven runs in the first inning and held on for the victory.
Baseball
Polytech 2, Woodbridge 1: The Panthers scored a pair of runs in the third inning to rally from an early deficit.
Dylan Gros earned the win by scattering just five hits with seven strikeouts. Brent Buckson doubled for the Panthers.
Milford 6, Sussex Tech 4: Chad Reichold went the distance for Milford and struck out eight.
Jaxson Turner and Brock Hilligoss combined for five RBI for the Buccaneers. Matt Warrington homered for Sussex Tech.
Middletown 4, Smyrna 0: The Eagles recorded three hits and dropped the nonconference contest.
Jeremy Carrow struck out nine for Smyrna. Larsen Wilson went 2-for-3 to lead the Eagle offense.
Sussex Central 10, Seaford 1: Robert Hollenbeck and Kyle Briggs each had a pair of hits while Javon Toppin scored twice.
Hollenbeck also threw four no-hit innings with eight strikeouts. Caden Dickerson doubled for Seaford’s lone hit.
Delmar 12, Laurel 2: The Wildcats earned the Henlopen South victory on Tuesday behind a combined pitching effort by Jordan Haddaway and Chris Richardson.
Delcastle 14, Sussex Academy 0: Troy Julian had a hit for Susssx Academy has it dropped a contest on the road.
Boys’ lacrosse
Dover 11, Sanford 10: The Senators edged Sanford in overtime in a nonconference matchup.
Delmarva Christian 10, William Penn 2: The Royals shut out the Colonials in the second half and picked up the win on the road.
Girls’ soccer
Smyrna 3, Lake Forest 0: Hannah Osborne netted a hat-trick with all three of her goals coming in the second half to lift the Eagles to the shutout victory.
Caesar Rodney 3, Indian River 0: Jessie Prillaman scored a goal and added a pair of assists for the Riders.
Jada McCullough and Macy Ramsey provided the other CR goals. Morgan Desaulniers made six saves in goal.
Sussex Central 2, Seaford 0: Kimberly Briceno-Tovar and Jenni Villagomez netted a goal apiece in the Golden Knight victory.
Delmar 1, Polytech 0: Logan Walls scored in the second overtime period to give the Wildcats the win.
Delmarva Christian 4, Milford 3: Skylar Bennett scored twice and assorted once as the Royals edged the Buccaneers.
Dover 7, Laurel 0: The Senators outshot the Bulldogs 27-2 during the victory on Tuesday.
Sussex Academy 1, Cape Henlopen 0: Breanna Duncan’s 27 saves led Sussex Academy to the shutout.
Lilly Short scores the game’s only goal in the first half.
Sussex Tech 1, Woodbridge 0: Hannah Murphy’s goal in the last 10 minutes proved to be the difference in the Raven victory.
Nicolette Phillips provided the assist while Valencia Whealton made three saves for the shutout.
College baseball
Lafayette 9, Delaware 4: The Blue Hens fell in the final game of the Liberty Bell Classic hosted at Citizens Bank Park.
Nick Patten had a pair of RBI and Calvin Scott also drove in a run. Kyle Baker added a double for Delaware.
Eastern 9, Wesley 6: The game was tied 5-5 before Eastern scored four unanswered runs to take the lead in the latter innings.
Chris Seibert, William Foster and Chris Bramble each doubles for the Wolverines.
Cody Dmiterchik reached base three times and scored twice. Seibert and Foster each drove in a pair of runs.
College softball
Eastern 8, Wesley 7: The Wolverines gave up four runs in the bottom of the fourth and fell to Eastern on Tuesday.
Miranda Kinney went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and a pair of runs to lead Wesley.
