Thomas McPoyle and Ricardo Hernandez each netted a pair of goals as the Caesar Rodney High boys’ soccer team defeated Sussex Tech 5-1 on Thursday night.

It’s the fifth consecutive victory for the Riders who improved to 5-3. Chikezie Ikwuagwu added the final goal for Caesar Rodney.

Michael Barr scored the lone tally for Sussex Tech.

Indian River 10, Lake Forest 0: Oscar Cruz and Mikie Mochiam each had a hat trick as the Indians remained perfect on the year to go to 6-0.

Jared Coroba scored twice while Wilberth Gomez and Kevin Parraza scored a goal apiece.

Dover 2, Smyrna 1: The Senators won the game thanks to a penalty kick in the 88th minute.

Field hockey

Dover 4, Laurel 0: Kristen Adkins scored three times and Emily Mabus had a goal in the Senator shutout.

The Senators held a 27-1 edge in shots and a 16-2 advantage in penalty corners.

Delmar 2, Polytech 1: Ashlyn Carr netted the game-winner off a corner right before halftime

Camyrn Dennis scored Polytech’s only goal.

Sussex Tech 5, Smyrna 1: The Ravens scored five goals in the second half to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit.

Jazmyne Marino and Bridget Johnson each netted a pair of goals while Baylee Ketterman also scored. Autum Wilson had Smyrna’s goal.

Indian River 3, Sussex Central 0: Lexi Haden, Riley Cordrey and Madi McGee provided the goals for the Indians.

Maggie Ford had a pair of assists for Indian River.

Volleyball

St. Thomas More 3, Woodbridge 0: Gillian Crawford had 12 assists and 13 aces to help the Ravens stay unbeaten at 9-0.

Logan Hughes and Sarah Reeves each added eight aces while Sarah Pool led the Ravens with six kills. Set scores were 25-12, 25-10 25-7.

Smyrna 3, Dover 0: The Eagles took another step toward winning the Henlopen North with a 25-2, 25-11, 25-7 victory.

Cape Henlopen 3, Sussex Central 0: The Vikings defeated Sussex Central 25-16, 27-25, 25-14 on Thursday.

Delmarva Christian 3, Holly Grove Christian, Md. 1: Gabrielle Book’s 11 kills paced the Royals to a 28-26, 24-26, 25-22, 25-9 result.

Women’s soccer

LIU 3, Delaware State 1: The Long Island University women’s soccer team downed Delaware State 2-1 behind three second half goals. It’s the first win of the season for Blackbirds (1-10) and DSU fell to 3-8.

Ashley Drozd’s 69th-minute goal proved to be the game-winner. The Blackbirds had tied it in 57th on a goal by Jenn Peters.

The Hornets were led by Ayanna Smith’s tally in the 21st minute.

Women’s lacrosse

UD grad selected to Canadian national team: Former Blue Hens regional All-American Casey Lyons, who graduated in May from the University of Delaware, has not quite hung up her cleats as the Georgetown, Ontario native will suit up for Team Canada this weekend at the Team USA Fall Classic.

Lyons was one of 41 women selected to move on in the tryout process in determining which athletes will represent their home country at the 2017 FIL Women’s Lacrosse World Cup in Guildford, England.

A three-time IWLCA All-Mid Atlantic Region and All-CAA First Team honoree in her three seasons with the Hens, Lyons finished her illustrious career with her name littered amongst the Delaware record books.  She placed ninth all-time with 65 assists, 13th with 168 points and was tied for 19th with 103 goals.

The Fall Classic, which will be held Oct. 8-9, at Tierney Field on the grounds of the newly minted US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md., will feature a series of exhibition games against some of the best teams in the world. Team Canada will join the defending world champion United States squad, 2005 gold medalists Australia and England, host of the 2017 tournament.

In addition to competing at the FIL World Cup, the 2017 national team will also have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase their sport to a new global audience when lacrosse makes its multi-sport games debut at the 2017 World Games in Wroclaw, Poland. Canada will compete against the host country, as well as the USA, Australia, Great Britain and Japan.
