Roundup: Polytech rallies for volleyball victory

Polytech High rallied to win the final three games to rally for a 3-2 victory over Delmarva Christian in a nonconference volleyball match on Wednesday.

After the Royals won 25-16, 25-21 to take a 2-0 advantage, the Panthers won the last three games by scores of 25-23, 25-16, 15-8.

Kaylee Williams had a match-high 22 kills with five digs for Polytech while Emily Campbell added 12 kills, six aces and 10 digs. Morgan Tesznar contributed 40 assists.

Leading Delmarva Christian were Gabrielle Book (10 kills), Allie Zitvogel (20 digs) and Olivia Berger (21 assists).

Field hockey

Gunston Day School (Md.) 3, St. Thomas More 1: Alexis Swinford scored the only goal for the Ravens (1-2) in their conference loss.

Boys’ soccer

Salisbury, Md. 1, Delmarva Christian 0: Salisbury scored the game’s only goal in the first half of the nonconference win.

College soccer

MEN, Iona 3, Delaware 0: Following a game in which Delaware tallied its most goals of the season, Iona held the Blue Hens scoreless.

Junior Marco Siverio led the Hens (3-2-1) with three shots, including two on goal. Freshman Blai Palmí collected five saves for Delaware,

Widener 3, Wesley 1: The Wolverines (1-5-1) couldn’t overcome a two-goal halftime deficit in the nonconference loss.

R.J. Dina’s second-half goal pulled Wesley within one before the Wolverines fell short. Ryan Sanders had four saves for Wesley.

College volleyball

Delaware 3, Penn 1: Chandler Bryant blasted a season-high 15 kills while Alexa Swann added 12 as the Blue Hens beat Penn on Tuesday night at The Palestra.

The Hens (5-5) captured the match by set scores of 27-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-14.

Bryant and Swann each committed just one attack error, as Bryant hit .500 for the night while Swann posted a .550 attack percentage. Swann also tied her career-high with nine blocks, as the Blue Hens held a commanding 17-3 block advantage at the net.
