Alison McKay scored the game-winning goal with just six seconds left to give Polytech High a dramatic 13-12 victory over Caravel in girls’ lacrosse on Monday.

Maddie McKay, Alison’s sister, assisted on the game-winner for the Panthers (8-1) in a contest that was tied 6-6 at halftime.

Alison McKay finished with five goals and three assists.

Also scoring for Polytech were Maddie McKay (2 goals, 1 assist), Jamie Trabaudo (2 goals, 2 assists), Morgan Cook (1 goal), Kate Richardson (1 goal), Caroline Hermance (1 goal) and Camryn Dennis (1 goal, 1 assist).

Shannon Stephan made eight saves for the Panthers, who outshot the Buccaneers, 28-21.

Ursuline 18, Caesar Rodney 12: Kourtney Olsen tallied seven goals for the Riders in their nonconference loss.

Delaney Steele (2 goals, 1 assist), Kacie Cava (2 goals) and Maegan Stewart (1 goal) also had goals for CR with Kaitlyn Longest making 10 saves.

The Raiders, who outscored the Riders 9-6 in both halves, finished with a 32-19 edge in shots.

Padua 17, Indian River 12: The Pandas outscored the Indians, 10-6, after halftime in posting the victory.

BOYS, Milford 14, Concord 4: Mark Henderson netted six goals as the Buccaneers improved to 3-4.

Donald Scott added three goals and Dallas Rhodes had two while Brennan Hajek, Elijah Kemp and Chase Taylor all scored one for Milford. Clay Stevenson made 27 saves.

Wilm. Friends 13, Sussex Tech 7: The Quakers used a 9-4 second-half run to pull away to the victory.

Nathaniel Quillen (3 goals), Jason Whaley (2 goals, 2 assists), Ian Carlisle (1 goal, 3 assists) and Matthew Tull (1 goal, 1 assist) scored for Susex Tech.

Ryan Justis had six saves for the Ravens, who were outshot, 45-21,

Red Lion Christian 13, Sussex Central 7: The Lions outscored the Golden Knights, 11-5, in the second half to break open a 2-2 game.

Softball

Lake Forest 11, Christiana 0: Kaitlyn Stahre threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts to earn the shutout for the Spartans.

Mya Maddox had a pair of hits with a triple while Faith Garey had an RBI double for Lake Forest, which scored seven runs in the second.

Sussex Tech 11, Concord 6: The Ravens overcame an early 4-0 deficit to pull away to the victory.

Madison Watson doubled for one of Sussex Tech’s four hits in the contest. Pitcher Sarah James earned the win in relief.

Sussex Central 6, Red Lion Christian 3: The Golden Knights used a four-run third to rally from an early 3-0 deficit.

Morgan Burton hit a three-run home run in the third before Kailee Abbott added a solo homer in the sixth. Chesley Ward had an RBI single with pitcher Hayley McCabe earning the win.

Baseball

Lake Forest 13, Christiana 0: Curtis Reed, Jordan Farlow and Hunter Fleetwood combined to pitch a five-inning one-hitter with 12 strikeouts for the Spartans.

Lake Forest’s Jordan Simpson, Dylan Martin and Eric Berardicelli all had two hits.

Girls’ soccer

Cape Henlopen 3, Delmarva Christian 0: Brooke Hollinsworth netted two goals and an assist in the first half as the Vikings won their third straight game.

Olivia Barratto made five saves for Cape, which finished with advantages of 16-5 in shots and 6-1 in corner kicks.

Layne Morris had 13 saves for the Royals.

College lacrosse

UD’s Schwartz honored: Delaware junior Jamie Schwartz was named as the CAA Player of the Week.

Schwartz led the Blue Hens (11-6, 3-3 CAA) to a 2-0 weekend by piling up 10 points on seven assists and three goals. She leads UD with a career-best 29 goals and is second for the Hens with 16 assists and 45 points.

College golf

Hens headed to Texas in NCAAs: Delaware was tabbed to participate in the Bryan, Tex. Regional of the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships, as the selections were announced Monday night.

The Blue Hens were one of 18 teams sent to the regional, which is hosted by Texas A&M and will be held May 5-7 on the 6,242-yard course at Traditions Club. Delaware will be the 16th seed at the regional.

The low six teams and the low three individuals not on those teams from each of the four regionals advance to the national championships, which will be held May 20-25 at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon.

“We are really excited we’re going to Texas,” said UD senior Nathalie Filler. “There are a lot of great teams going there, and hopefully we can advance to the NCAA Championships. We already faced TCU and UCLA this spring, so it will be great to see those teams again. We hung in there against them in California, and hopefully we can do it again next weekend.”

The Hens, in just the fifth year of the program, will be making their first trip to the NCAA Regionals after earning an automatic bid by capturing the Colonial Athletic Association title on April 15-17.
