The Polytech High girls’ basketball team dropped a nonconference matchup against Hodgson on Tuesday night, 54-36.

Tamia Mathias paced the Panthers with 14 points.

Caesar Rodney 68, A.I. du Pont 57: Alissa Haith led the Riders to a nonconference victory with a game-high 27 points.

The Riders scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to take the lead.

Smyrna 44. Milford 38: Melena Credle helped the Eagles earn the win, leading all scorers with 16 points.

Cape Henlopen 61, St. Georges 48: Dania Cannon’s 21 points topped the Vikings who earned their second consecutive victory in the nonconference contest on Tuesday.

Boys’ basketball

Smyrna 63, Milford 41: Caleb Matthews scored 21 points and hit four threes as the Eagles remained unbeaten on the season.

Jaymeir Garnett added 17 points for Smyrna while Zubi Nwankwo chipped in 16. Christopher Sampson netted 15 points to lead the Buccaneers.

A.I. du Pont 49, Caesar Rodney 44: The Riders were led by Davione Robinson’s 12 points but fell on the road in a nonconference contest.

Men’s basketball

Lewis and Clark 84, Wesley 61: The Wolverines traveled nearly 3,000 miles to the West Coast to take on Lewis and Clark College on Tuesday in a non-conference battle. The squad ran into a hot-shooting Pioneers team, falling 84-61 to their hosts.

Paul Clemons led the Wolverines in points and rebounds, earning a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. JW Lawson added 15 points while Brian Cameron dropped 11. As a team the Wolverines shot just 36.1% from the field including a 2-for-8 effort from behind the arc.

At times during the game, it appeared that the Lewis and Clark offense couldn’t miss. The Pioneers finished the game shooting 47.1% and drilled 13 three-point baskets on the night. 17 of the Pioneers’ 32 field goals came off of assists as well.

College lacrosse

Hen women add to coaching staff: University of Delaware head coach Kateri Linville announced Tuesday the addition of two former standout women’s lacrosse players to complete her 2017 coaching staff.

Allison Daley (Canisius ’11 ’13) joins the Blue Hens as an assistant coach while Dené DiMartino (Johns Hopkins ’16) will serve as a volunteer assistant coach.

An IWLCA Regional All-American, MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and three-time All-MAAC goalie at Canisius from 2008-11, Daley spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach and the director of recruiting at Binghamton University, where she mentored 11 All-Conference honorees.  She also held a major role in leading the Bearcats to the program’s lowest goals against average in 2016 while Rebecca Golderman became the program’s first-ever America East Rookie of the Year this past spring.

DiMartino arrives at Delaware after wrapping a successful career for the Blue Jays in which she was a Tewaaraton Trophy nominee and two-time All-American.  The Manorville, N.Y. native holds the school’s Division I career records for points by a midfielder (201), goals by a midfielder (170), free position goals (55), consecutive games with a goal (45) and draw controls (267).  DiMartino led JHU to an 11-8 record in 2016 while earning a trip to the NCAA Division I Sweet 16.

Daley fills a void in the program staff as former assistant coach Sarah Armour stepped down this summer to pursue personal and family priorities.
