Polytech High built a six-run lead before holding off Sussex Central, 8-7, in Henlopen Conference baseball on Friday afternoon.

Winning pitcher Miquel Rivera notched his fourth win while also adding a pair of hits at the plate.

The Panthers, who scored five runs in the third inning, led 7-1 in the fourth before the Golden Knights rallied for four runs in the fifth.

D.J. Doherty had three hits and two RBI for Central while Trevor Collins homered.

Caesar Rodney 4, Indian River 3: The Riders scored three runs in the top of the first before holding on for their fourth straight win.

Kyle Comegys went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for CR, which was limited to four hits in the contest.

Ryan Engh had two hits with an RBI and a run scored for the Indians.

Lake Forest 3, St. Andrew 0: Curtis Reed pitched a complete-game two-hitter with seven strikeouts to earn the shutout for the Spartans.

Zack Hall hit a two-run double in the sixth with Tyler Collins adding two of Lake’s three hits.

Rick Townsend pitched for St. Andrews.

Cape Henlopen 4, Delmar 0: Austin Elliott struck out 16 in just five 2/3 innings to earn the win for the Vikings.

Reliever Thomas Heffernan completed the one-hit shutout. Noah Piper (triple, double) and Will Jarrell (2 RBI, 1 run) had two hits apiece for Cape.

Chris Richardson had the Wildcats’ lone hit.

Milford 13, Laurel 0: Winning pitcher Brock Hilligoss threw four shutout innings for the Buccaneers.

Holden Bailey and Phil Herber had two hits each with Dante George scoring three runs.

Softball

Polytech 4, Sussex Central 3: Morgan Dodge tripled with two outs in the bottom of the eighth and scored on Brianna Sapienza’s single to give the Panthers the Henlopen Conference victory.

Polytech scored its first three runs on a two-out, three-run double from Amanda Waishes in the third. Taylor Pechin threw a five-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

Jessica Kwasnieski and Brianna Sapienza each contributed two hits to the Panthers’ total of 11.

The Knights tied the game with two runs in the top of the sixth. Hailey McCable doubled and scored on Chelsea Ward’s single with Tayor Evick scoring the tying run.

Cape Henlopen 4, Delmar 1: The Vikings scored all four of their runs in the third inning to overcome a 1-0 deficit.

Lacrosse

BOYS, Delmar 14, Sussex Central 3: The Wildcats broke open a 2-1 game with seven unanswered goals in the second quarter.

Alex Rosenthal (1 assist) tallied five goals for Delmar with Jeremy Haynes adding three. Nicholas Smith (3 assists), Zach Rosenthal and Chance Watts all had two goals each with Hunter Gilmore making seven saves.

William Wells, Kyle Cox (1 assist) and Chase Holden scsored Central’s goals. Jordan Schmidt stopped 10 shots.

Sussex Tech 20, Indian River 9: Nathaniel Quillin netted five goals and two assists to pace the Ravens to the win.

Jason Whaley (2 assists), Matthew Tull (3 assists) and Ian Carlisle (2 assists) all added four goals. Whaley scored his 150th career goal to become the program’s all-time leading scorer.

Nathan Hanenfeld (2 goals, 2 assists) and Daniel Wilson (1 goal) also scored for Sussex Tech with Ryan Justis and Camden Chorman combining for seven saves.

George Martin had a team-high three goals for IR. Wyatt Kovatch (1 assist) and Joshua Lucido had two apiece and Hayden McWilliams made 13 saves.

Girls’ soccer

Hodgson 3, St. Thomas More 1: Emily Saint gave the Ravens a 1-0 lead in the first minute before the Silver Eagles’ netted the game’s final three goals.

Goalie Kourtnie Orth made six saves as St. Thomas More was outshot, 11-4.

College baseball

Northeastern 6, Delaware 1: Northeastern righthander Aaron Civale allowed just one run in eight innings to lead the Huskies.

The Blue Hens (21-12, 4-6 CAA) opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when Nick Tierno worked a two-out walk, advanced to third on a stolen base and a throwing error, and scored when Jordan Glover rolled a single into rightfield.

But Northeastern (17-14, 5-4 CAA) took the lead for good in the top of the fifth by pushing across three unearned runs off Blue Hen starter Ron Marinaccio.

Marinaccio (6-2) dropped his second straight decision after allowing five runs, two earned, on four hits in 6.1 innings of work. Delaware received a solid relief performance from Nick Spadafino (Dover), who surrendered only one run on one hit in 1.2 innings.

College lacrosse

WOMEN, Drexel 6, Delaware 4: The Blue Hens (0-3 CAA, 8-6 overall) have lost five straight games by two or fewer goals.

Drexel jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before Delaware rattled off four straight to tie the contest at 4-4 with 20 minutes remaining in the contest. But Nadia Pelham-Lacey registered two goals in the final 16 minutes for Drexel’s first win over the Hens since 2013.
