Jake Kaiser’s goal 41 seconds into overtime lifted Smyrna High to an 8-7 victory over Middletown in boys’ lacrosse on Friday afternoon.

Goalie Dylan Delongschamp also made three of his 21 saves in OT for the Eagles (6-7), who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Kaiser finished with three goals and an assist with Brian Davis scoring twice. Zachary Haas, Wesley Ogden (1 assist) and Jacob Soroko also scored goals.

Dover 10, Milford 9: The Senators built a 9-4 lead going into the fourth period before holding off the Buccaneers.

Sophomore Will Niebrzydowski collected six goals and an assist to reach 100 goals for his career.

Also scoring goals for Dover (8-6) were Robert Mason (1 goal, 2 assists),  Ricky Pitts (1 goal), Thomas Gill (1 goal, 1 assist) and Divine Watkins (1 goal, 1 assist). Kyle Potter made 13 saves.

GIRLS, Tower Hill 19, Caesar Rodney 9: Jenna Rigby netted three goals for the Riders in the nonconference loss.

Delaney Steele added two goals and a pair of assists while ourtney Olsen collected a goal and three assists.

CR’s other goals came from Kacie Cava, Abigail McGowen and Maegan Stewart.

Baseball

St. Elizabeth 10, St. Thomas More 0: The Vikings scored all 10 of their runs in the first inning while no-hitting the Ravens.

Softball

Woodbridge 13, St. Mark’s 7:  The Raiders scored the first seven runs of the game before going on to the win.

Beverly VanBusKirk went 3-for-4 with a pair of walks while Rachel Driscoll had two hits and a walk for Woodbridge.

Girls’ soccer

Newark Charter 2, Delmar 0: Julia Johnson made nine saves for the Wildcats in their nonconference loss.

Newark Charter held advantages of 13-6 in shots and 5-1 in corner kicks.

College softball

Hornets ousted in MEAC: Bethune-Cookman held off a late charge by Delaware State to advance to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference softball championship game on Friday night with a 5-3 victory at the Ormond Beach (Fla.) Sports Complex.

The Wildcats (20-31) led 5-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh before a two-run homerun by Sandy Hawthorne cut the deficit to 5-3. However, Rochelle Sablay flied out to center to end the game.

Delaware State (30-18), the MEAC North’s top seed, rallied to beat Savannah State, 5-4, and downed Norfolk State, 10-2, earlier in the day to stay alive in the double-elimination tourney. The Hornets went 3-2 in the tournament.

Hawthorne went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Hornets against Bethune-Cookman.

College baseball

Towson 10, Delaware 9: Playing 13 innings on Friday the 13th turned out to be bad luck for Delaware.

The Blue Hens’ Colonial Athletic Association series opener was a heartbreaker as host Towson scored on a bases-loaded walk with one out in the bottom of the 13th inning to escape with the win.

Delaware (29-20, 7-12 CAA), which entered the game just one game behind Towson in the CAA standings, hit four home runs but squandered a 9-5 lead as the Tigers (19-30, 9-10 CAA) scored one run in the seventh and three in the eighth to send the game into extra frames.

Delaware first baseman Nick Patten went 3-for-5 with two runs, four runs batted in, and two home runs. He recorded his second two-home run game of the season and now has four homers in his last four games to up his team lead to 12.

Jordan Glover went 3-for-6 and knocked in a run with his fourth homer of the season and Diaz Nardo (Cape Henlopen) had two RBI.

College track & field

UD’s Hillman second in ECAC: Delaware’s Sarah Hillman (Polytech) placed second in the discus at the annual Eastern College Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday.

Hillman, a sophomore from Dover, earned All-East honors with her performance as her best throw in six attempts traveled 156-feet, 8-inches for a runner-up finish. She improved nine spots after placing 11th in the discus at last year’s ECAC meet as a freshman.
