Felton-Harrington’s Junior League all-stars finally ran out of comebacks on Sunday evening.

Naamans scored four runs in the top of the first inning and then held off Felton-Harrington, 4-2, to capture the Junior League baseball state title.

The championship sends Naamans to the East Regional, which starts on Friday in Freehold Township, N.J.

Felton-Harrington reached the state finals with a 9-3 win over Nanticoke-Laurel on Saturday night.

In that game, the District I champions avenged a 16-run loss to Nanticoke-Laurel start the tournament. Felton-Harrington was led by Gabe Martin (1-for-3, 2 runs), Wade Brooks (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs), Byron Freeland (3-for-3, 2 runs), Leighton Webb (2-for-2, 2 RBI), Shane Johnson (1-for-3, 2 RBI), Collin Jaksch (1-for-3, 2 RBI) and Chase Killen (2-for-3, 2 runs).

Freeland was the winning pitcher, striking out four in 5 2/3 innings before Brooks and Jaksch combined to get the final four outs.

On Sunday, Felton-Harrington could only answer with two runs after falling behind Naamans, 4-0.

Senior League

World Series starts in L. Sussex: The Senior League Softball World Series gets underway today at Lower Sussex Little League this evening.

District III champion Georgetown opens the 10-team tournament with a 6 p.m. game against U.S. East champion Haverstraw, N.Y. at the Lower Sussex complex in Roxana.

The tourney continues with games each day before the quarterfinal round on Friday. The semifinals will be on Saturday with the championship game slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Lower Sussex had previously hosted the Big League World Series as well but Little League got rid of that age division this year.
