M.O.T. edged Lower Sussex, 4-3, on Monday to reach the finals in the 8-10 baseball state tournament.

M.O.T. will take on Newark National today at 7 p.m. at Smyrna-Clayton. M.O.T. needs a victory to force a second game for the title on Wednesday’s win.

In Monday’s win, Mike Biondolillo (4-for-4, 2 runs), Ian Keane (3-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 run) and Garrett Overby (2-for-3, 1 RBI) led the way for M.O.T. Paul Burris and Overby pitched three innings apiece.

Major League

M.O.T. 11, Brandywine 7: M.O.T. picked up the win in the tournament opener played on Sunday night.

Leading the Middletown-area squad were Brandon Sullivan (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs, triple, double), Eli Hunt (2-for-4, homer, 4 RBI), Zach Sophy (homer, double, 2 RBI), Jimmy Breen (2 hits) and Will Austin (2 hits).

Sophy also struck out four in 3 2/3 innings pitched while Austin added three strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.

Senior League

Naamans 3, New Jersey 0: Naamans won its second-straight game to reach the losers’-bracket finals in the East Regional on Monday night.

The Delaware state champions (3-1) play today at 7 p.m. with the winner moving onto the championship round of the tourney, being played in Thorofare, N.J.

After posting back-to-back shutouts, Naamans has allowed a total of just six runs in its four games.

American Legion

Monday games postponed: Heavy rain overnight caused the postponement of the three Amercan Legion baseball state tournament games scheduled for Monday.

The tourney, being played at New Castle’s Wilson Field, will be pushed back one day.

In the contests slated for today, eighth-seeded R.C. DuPont Post 18 (0-1) faces No. 5 Stahl Post 30 (0-1) at 9 p.m., No. 2 Fox Post 2 (1-0) plays Nanticoke Post 6 (1-0) at 12:30 p.m. with fifth-seeded Smyrna Post 14 (1-0) taking on top-seeded Delaware Post 1 (1-0) at 4:30 p.m.

SOFTBALL

8-10 Tournament

Woodbridge 2, Camden-Wyoming 0: Woodbridge finished its climb out of the losers’ bracket to capture the state title on Sunday evening.

The District III champions won three straight games after losing its sopener in the three-team tourney, which was played at Canal.

Woodbridge beat Camden-Wyoming, 9-2, on Saturday night to force a second game for the championship. Sunday’s game was shortened by rain.

Senior League

M.O.T. game postponed: M.O.T.’s Eastern Regional game with Maryland was postponed on Monday leaving the state champions with a doubleheader slated for today.

M.O.T. (1-1) faces Maryland at 8 a.m. today before taking on New York at 1 p.m. in the nine-team tourney being played in Worcester, Mass.

The single-elimination bracket of the tournament begins on Wednesday.

Junior League

New York 13, Nanticoke-Laurel 10: The Delaware state champions suffered their first loss on Monday to finish with a record of 3-1 during pool play at the Eastern Regional.

The single-elimination portion of the tourney is slated to start today in Orange, Conn.

College bowling

DSU’s Neuer on national team: Delaware State’s Alexis Neuer continues to add to her impressive list of achievements.

Neuer, entering her sophomore year with the Hornet bowling team, has secured a spot on the USA Junior National Team (under 20).

Neuer qualified for the spot on the national team after finishing third with a final-round average of 206.08 (990 total pinfall) at the United States Bowling Congress Junior Gold Championships in Cleveland last week.

Neuer’s freshman season at Delaware State was highlighted by a strong showing at the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championship and her selection as Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Co-Rookie of the Year. She also helped lead the Hornets to the 2016-17 MEAC Northern Division title.
