Janiah Moore’s first-half goal stood up as Wesley College edged Immaculata, 1-0, in women’s soccer on Wednesday evening.

A junior midfielder from Caesar Rodney High, Moore scored on a breakaway at the 15:31 mark.

Goalie Krista Salvadore made 11 saves to earn the shutout for the Wolverines (1-1) as the Macs outshot Wesley, 25-9,

Moore had four of the Wolverines’ shots with Aleya Cummings adding three.

MEN, Villanova 2, Delaware 1: The Blue Hens (2-1-1) suffered their first loss of the season when the Wildcats scored on a penalty kick in double overtime.

Villanova (3-2) was awarded the PK when Delaware goalkeeper Todd Morton was called for a foul on Yusuf Cueceoglu’s late overtime run.

The goal, from Max Kroschwitz, gave the Wildcats their seventh consecutive victory over the Hens. Fede Prieto tallied the lone Delaware goal in the 34th minute.

Morton ended up making six saves, including a pair of highlight-reel efforts on Villanova set pieces. Delaware was outshot, 21-13.

Eastern Mennonite 2, Wesley 1: The Wolverines dropped to 0-3 with the overtime loss on Wednesday.

Darius-David Robinson scored a first-half goal for Wesley off an assist from J.P. Amougou. Kyle Springsteen made four saves for the Wolverines, 16-10.

‘Challenge’ set for DE Turf: Seven Henlopen Conference boys’ soccer teams will open their seasons on Friday at the fifth annual DAAD Upstate Downstate Soccer Challenge.

This year’s event is being played at the DE Turf complex in Frederica.

In the first varsity contest, at 3:30 p.m., Polytech faces Appoquinimink. There are three games at 4:30 p.m., including Lake Forest vs. Dickinson, Indian River vs. Newark and Seaford vs. Design Lab.

At 5:30 p.m., Caesar Rodney takes on Wilmington Charter, Woodbridge plays Brandywine and Smyrna squares off with Concord. Tickets are $5 for the event, which also includes junior varsity games.
