Lake Forest High used a big second half to pick up its first win of the football season, 51-26, over Tatnall on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 26-24 at halftime, Lake Forest (1-1) outscored the Hornets (0-2) by a 27-0 margin in the second half.

Of the Spartans’ seven touchdowns, six were rushing TDs.

Junior Elle Harden and freshman running back Isaiah Johnson ran for two touchdowns each, while quarterback Desaun Bizzell and junior running back Chris Allen added one apiece.

The contest featured seven lead changes, but Johnson’s first career touchdown early in the third quarter put Lake ahead of the Hornets for good.

Bizzell added a touchdown through the air, hitting Nick Lane in stride halfway through the third quarter. The touchdown went for 35 yards and extended Lake’s lead to 11 points.

The Spartans host A.I. DuPont next Friday night in another nonconference contest.

Boys’ soccer

Cape Henlopen 5, Holly Grove Christian 1: Zach Gelof netted three straight second-half goals as the Vikings put away the victory.

Dane Palmer and Ulysis Slagle tallied first-half goals for Cape, which finished with advantages of 20-4 in shsots and 7-2 in corner kicks.

College field hockey

Wesley 1, Keystone 0: Rebecca Dvorak’s second-half goal lifted the Wolverines (1-4) to their first win of the season.

Kaila Hindt led a fastbreak in the 57th minute where she found Dvorak on a cross in the arc. Dvorak shot it past the Keystone keeper off the post and into the net.

The Wesley defense only allowed three Keystone shots in the contest. Wesley goalie Sidney Knott stopped both of the on-target shots.

Wesley also held the advantage in penalty corners, 12-5.

College soccer

MEN, Cairn 1, Wesley 0: The Wolverines (1-6) lost the nonconference contest on an overtime goal.

In the 96th minute, Cairn’s Dorman Brady played a ball into the box and found Brendan Keller who squeaked a shot past Wesley’s Kyle Springsteen for the game-winner.

Luis Cruz recorded two shots on goal while Cristian Chavez, Darren Lewis and Jaki Farlow each tallied a shot on target in the loss.

Cairn held a narrow 6-5 advantage over Wesley in shots on goal. Springsteen made five saves in net for the Wolverines.

Bowling

Millsboro hosting event: Following the mid-August PBA National Tour stop at Mid County Lanes in Middletown, Millsboro Lanes will host its 2nd annual PBA/PBA50 Regional Tour Doubles Open next weekend.

More than 40 teams are expected to battle it at out at Millsboro Lanes.

The unique format does allow for amateur teams, one member over 50, the other under 50, who meet PBA average standards to also compete.

The field holds a practice session on Friday from 1-3 pm, followed by a junior pro-am at 5 p,m. and an adult pro-am at 7 p.m. Contact Millsboro Lanes (934-0400) for amateur doubles as well as pro-am tournaments information.
