Lake Forest High downed Milford, 50-37, in Henlopen Conference Southern Division girls’ basketball on Friday night.

The victory was the third in a row for the Spartans, who improved to 3-1 in the South and overall.

Lake Forest has also won its last two meetings with the Buccaneers.The Spartans led 24-15 at halftime before a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Mya Maddox sent Lake to the fourth quarter with a 38-26 advantage.

Milford is 2-1 in the South, 3-1 overall after suffering its first loss of the season.

Laurel 33, Woodbridge 26: The Bulldogs picked up the victory in a Henlopen South matchup.

Cape Henlopen 42, Sussex Tech 40: The Vikings outscored the Ravens, 31-21, in the second half to rally for the Henlopen North win on Thursday night.

Sydney Pedersen had 12 points to lead Cape.

Airelle Parker and Rukiya Davis netted nine points apiece for Sussex Tech.

Seaford 52, Delmar 44: The Blue Jays (1-4) earned their first win of the season in a Henlopen South game on Thursday night.

Boys’ basketball

Cape Henlopen 65, Sussex Tech 54: The Vikings used a 24-9 run in the second quarter to overcome an early five-point deficit in the Henlopen North victory.

Cape’s Randy Rickards (16 points), Ian Robertson (15) and Cory Barnes (11) all scored in double figures while Izaiah Dadzie (9 points) sank three three-pointers.

Ja’ron Hunt-Fletcher (14 points), Pa’Trek Dennis (14) and Jaquan Burton (10) led the Ravens.

Seaford 61, McKean 52: Andrez Jones tallied 28 points to pace the Blue Jays to the victory at Glasgow’s Dragon Classic.

She’Mar Deputy added 17 points for Seaford.

College baseball

Hornets sign six recruits: Delaware State baseball coach J.P. Blandin has announced that the signing of six high school recruits, including a pair of players from Polytech High.

The signees are P/OF Miguel Rivera (Polytech), 1B Cole Garey (Polytech), C/1B Joshua Jackson (Monmouth Regional, N.J.), 2B John Weglarz, Jr. (Appoquinimink), OF Mo Parson (Mount Pleasant) and OF/P Tristan Guild (St. George’s).

Rivera, brother of Hornet junior pitcher Gabe Rivera, is a two-way standout at Polytech. He had a .506 batting average with an on-base plus slugging percentage of over 1.232 during the summer.

Rivera also posted a 4-0 record on the mound with and a 30-11 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 26.1 IP. As a junior at Polytech, Rivera batted .531 with a .642 on-base percentage. He was 5-1 record with a 3.50 ERA.

Garey homered five times in 18 games as a junior at Polytech. He also drove in 22 runs while hitting .370 and slugging .761 for the Panthers last season.

College athletics

Two Hens honored for academics: Delaware field hockey player Esmée Peet and men’s soccer player Ben Sampson were named Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athletes for the fall sports season.

A senior majoring in international business/MIS, Peet is a four-time CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award recipient and has made the Dean’s List in each semester at Delaware while being named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad and Chi Alpha Sigma.

Peet received first-team All-CAA and All-Region honors for the fourth straight year and finished her career ranked fourth in goals (48) and points (120) at UD.

Sampson, the men’s soccer selection for the second time in his career, is a graduate student pursuing a Master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering with a concentration in signal processing, communications and controls. Just a few weeks ago, Sampson became the first CAA men’s soccer player to be honored as the CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year.
